And the Winner is SALLY!
I’ve never said that Sally is the best-trained dog.
I mean, don’t get me wrong, she isn’t wild (all of the time).
However, when she came into my life completely shut off from the world, I had never had a dog in my life before and the person who had promised she was his, did nothing.
Which meant I had no idea what to do.
There were so many questions I needed to find answers to.
What’s the best food? Grain free dog food most definitely seemed to suit her well.

How do you train a dog? She was absolutely petrified of other dogs, which means classes weren’t an option.
In the end, we muddled along together, I taught her to walk on a lead, but she can still pull.
I taught her to sit, but sometimes she doesn’t want to.
Of course, I failed at teaching her some things as well. She never really got into playing with toys, even cheese in a hanky didn’t do it. Though bottles and boxes are fun, as is stripping tennis balls.
However, I did manage to teach her to be more of a dog, to enjoy life, to snuggle and be snuggled.
To enjoy human company again.
While she taught me I was worth more and saved my life on many occasions.

What Award Would Sally Win?
With Crufts and Scruffts happening right now, it got me wondering what award Sally would win.
She most definitely is the most sneaky of snack thieves! She stole a chicken ball right off my plate the other week.
She is also easy to fall in love with. I don’t think anyone has walked into the bungalow and not fallen for her goofy face.
Of course, she could always win the silliest Sally of all time! With all the funny situations she gets herself into and the fact she always knows how to make me smile.

Most Caring Dog
But honestly, I think she should win the award for the most caring dog.
From the times she snuggles with me when I am feeling unwell and in pain, to picking up the small changes in Ash’s sugar levels.
Sally is always putting her humans first, making sure they are OK, and trying to tell us when something is wrong before it becomes a bigger issue.
I can’t think of a moment when Sally hasn’t tried her best to look after me.
She is a very special dog and a dog I am very lucky to have in my life for sure.
Do you have a pet? What award do you think they would win?
This post is in conjunction with James Wellbeloved but all thoughts are my own.

We have a dog named Nugget. He is currently winning the award for fastest destruction of a dog toy.
It is crazy how quickly some dogs get through toys isn’t it!
18 years?! That’s a whole life of beautiful memories. I do believe that pets become family. The fill the house with joy! I’ve never taught a dog a trick, I need to add that to my bucket list hahah

They really do don’t they, they just bring everyone together as well. It’s crazy how many people fall in love with Sal when they see her.
Sally is just too cute. She deserves the BFF award too! Happy Birthday young lady and you’ve given her such a wonderful loving home it sounds like!
That is very true she most definitely is my BFF or BDFF (best doggy friend forever 😉 )
We rescued our puppy just over 2 months ago. She just learned how to sit, give paw, stay and down. We are proud of the progress she’s making!
Oh bless it sounds like she is doing absolutely amazingly!
Sally is so precious! My dog Sadie would definitely win the award for most loyal. She never leaves my side, and she sits and waits for me to get home all day when I’m at work no matter who’s home! Every time I walk through the door it warms my heart to be greeted by her excited kisses 🙂
Oh bless her, it is amazing how loyal dogs can be, isn’t it!
What a cute dog. My dog would win “counter-surfer” award for life and most eaten jars of nutella.
Haha I LOVE those awards they are absolutely fantastic!
It’s sometimes good to act silly and make others laugh and of course, being caring is one of the best traits any human or a pet can have.
Most definitely sometimes bringing a smile to someone’s face can mean everything.
Oh Sal you are definitely the most caring dog! You are amazing xx
She really is an amazing dog, not sure how I got so lucky with her.
Aw, that little face is so cute. Good job Sally on being the winner! Sounds like you were destined for this title.
Most definitely she was born to be the most caring of soles.
Such a cute dog. She sounds like a great friend to have around and she deserves good food.
She really is the best friend I could ever ask for in a pooch!
Sally is gorgeous and a very clever dog xx
My two Bedlington pups would win most mischievous and most loving. xx
Aww there’s nothing like a little mischievous pup is there! They are so fun.
What a sweetheart Sally is! An animal’s love is real, and I love the award of most caring dog. I’m sure Sally lives up to it every day!
It is amazing how much love they have to give isn’t there. They just give it and ask for nothing in return.
Such a cute pup! I miss having a dog so bad… they’re the best!
They really are I don’t remember what life was like before her I have to say.
She sure is a winner! She’s a beautiful dog, and sounds like you two were destined to be together. She couldn’t have found a better human!
I hope so I hope I have given her a happy life and one she has enjoyed.
Your dog can not fail to be the winner for how it makes your life fuller, more beautiful and more grateful!
Most definitely they see life in a way we can’t really understand but it makes it so full.
Sally is just so beautiful, I love all of your posts about her. She would win the best looking dog award!
Aww thank you <3, I'll let her know you said that as well 😉 x
Sally is a beautiful dog. She looks so peaceful and content. That’s a sign of a good life!
She is amazing, her resilience to life and all it has thrown at her just astoundes me.
Aww! Sally sounds like such a character and such a lovely dog. x
She really is she has such a big personality.
She needs an award for being so cute! I miss the dog we had sadly we had to give him up but the training was the hard part.
Haha she would totally win the most cutest award! Aww sometimes things aren’t meant to be are they.
Your dog looks like she has had a very good life. It’s a parent how much you love her and how much she loves you. I can’t believe that dog is 18! She does not look like she’s that old.
Thank you <3 she has been amazing to me and I hope I've given her a good life in return.
Sally is so sweet! Congrats on her award. My cats would probably get a Feisty Award, since they certainly can be. Will they bite? Will they cuddle? One never knows!
Haha cats are funny creatures aren’t they, I do love them though.
Sally is simply adorable! She looks so sweet! My German Shepherd, Max, would get a herding award. He loves to try and round up the grandkids when they are all playing outside.
Oh bless him, Sal does that if we aren’t all in the same room she likes everyone together in their place haha!
Our boy Rupert is similar to your Sally in the way he cares about us. I think though that he would win the award for either, smelliest feet (SOOO CHEESY!) or he could win the best at barking as he flipping loves it when people go past our garden. Like it’s his fave thing to do.
Dogs feet smell so odd don’t they haha! Oh bless him, just protecting his territory lol.
Oh my gosh, she is so cute! My dog would win the naughtiest dog award ha ha – She is half beagle and loves to run off and explore!
Oh no! Sal used to be a bit of a runner, she’s calmed down in her old age though lol.
Well done Sally – FAB achievement for 18 years
She is a little super star!
