Affordable Methods Of Decorating In The Run Up To Christmas
Christmas is coming! And if you are looking for the perfect way to get decorating for the big do, no matter if you are looking to splash out or save a few pennies, thankfully, there are plenty of ways to get your home ready for the big day.
With that in mind, are some ideas big and small which might make it onto your decorating list this year.
Going Big on a Budget.
With many people at home in the run-up to Christmas, the idea of taking on bigger jobs might come to mind. However, how do you do this without breaking the bank?
From buying leftover paint to looking at carpet remnants such as those from Designer Carpets. There are many ways to completely redecorate a room without paying too much.
While if you feel like your furniture needs a revamp than if what you have is a good condition you could look at recovering, rather than replacing.
DIY It.
With extra time on your hands instead of buying decorations this year, why not make your own.
From making paper decorations to printing or sewing your own bunting, there are many craft ideas out there which you can recreate for yourself. You could even do something as simple as potato printing onto brown paper to make wrapping paper.
Not sure where to start? Well, Pinterest and craft blogs are full of fun ideas for kids and adults.
Think Outside (Your Home).
With the fact we may not be able to visit many people this Christmas on the cards, why not take your Christmas decor outside.
While of course, some spend a lot on outside decorations. A cheap set of fairy lights could be all you need to bring a smile to someone’s face.
Foraged Decor.
Don’t pay for conkers and pinecones, instead pick up such items on your walks. While if you or someone you know has a holly bush you could cut some down (with permission). Fallen branches and foliage can also come in handy.
Then with such items under your belt, you could make table decorations, wreaths and more. Just let your imagination lead the way.
Reuse Last Year’s Items.
We all have decorations we bring out year after year. However, what about last year’s cards? If you have been holding onto them “just in case” you could look to repurpose them into gift tags. While creating seasonal collages for your wall, or even new cards could also work too.
When it comes to decorations which you aren’t sure you will use again, you could also think about how you could repurpose those. You could even use them outside; a local lady started a tree filled with decorations last year and it looked beautiful.
Of course, these are just a few ideas for you to think about. After all, there is so much you do to make Christmas a fun and festive time no matter the budget you have to play with.

We are going to make our own wreath this year with foraged foliage, pine cones, and some little extras using a wreath frame we already have x

I love decorating for the holidays. It’s one of my favorite times of the. I’m usually on a budget as well when it comes to everything. I love doing my own DIY for the holidays.
I think DIY’d items can look the absolute best for any time of year – something extra special about them.
We’re using all of our decorations we had before but now we’re in a house as opposed to a flat we’ve needed to buy quite a few things to fill up the space, but we’ll be reusing them x

I always reuse my Christmas decorations and try and buy at least one more each year to add to it. This year I am miffed that the Nordic Santa’s are becoming so popular as I want another one and its pushed the price up
I think it seems to be quite a common thing that people buy a nice new one every year – I think that’s a nice tradition.

I always struggle to decorate for Christmas because I’m the only one in the house who actually enjoys Christmas! This year, I have absolutely no motivation to do it. I hope I feel better closer to the actual day.

I love the idea of foraging for decor, and to decorate outside most! It’s going to be a very different Christmas this year… Making sure the house looks cheerful on the outside will bring a sense of community in a time where there isn’t much of that.

Me and the kids love making Christmas decorations from old Christmas cards, pine cones, acorn, twigs etc. The natural things are my favourites.

Budget Friendly :- Years ago I had a pretty Fairy decoration. I cannot remember what it cost. But it would have been reasonable, and bought along with other Christmas decorations for the Christmas tree, and the house / home. Probably bought from Woolworths (which sadly no longer exists).
The Fairy decoration was so pretty, and practical, and easy to store away :- It was placed on top of the Christmas tree for many years. Till it did eventually come to some damage. Certainly was a good buy, Was admired by children and others.
Re – use seems such a sensible thing to do. Economical, and can be nostalgic / sentimental, etc. As some may have been gifts, some bought specific year :- New Home, First Child, etc.

I’ve got lots of family birthdays in the run up to Xmas; this year it’s my Daughters 21st so I always struggle financially. I enjoyed reading this post and will put some of the tips into action to save some money.

What a lovely idea to make things. My daughter tends to do lots of pictures which we put up (she is 5), I might have a go at doing a home made wreath this year from things in the garden or from parks.

I have cross-stitched a few ornaments – Winnie the Pooh and Eeyore with Santa hats on – gives me something to do and they are cheap to make!
Oh gosh, I bet they are so cute! When we had room for a tree I used to have Winnie the Pooh with a star on top of it. My aunt who is no longer with us got him for me, so its a special one.
