The Adorably Quirky World of Labubu: Why Collectors Can’t Get Enough
From blind boxes to viral fan art, Labubu has become a beloved icon in the world of cute and quirky collectables. Whether you’re a long-time collector or new to the scene, there’s something irresistibly charming about this little rascal and the creative universe it lives in.
In this post, we’re diving into why Labubu continues to steal hearts across the globe, including mine!
Who (or What) is Labubu?

Labubu is a mischievous yet lovable character inspired by Nordic folklore and created by Kasing Lung, a Hong Kong-Belgian artist whose imaginative creatures have taken the designer toy scene by storm. They are a character that is part of “The Monsters” series and is a much-loved mascot of the POPLAND theme park.
Produced by POP MART, the same powerhouse behind series like Molly, Skullpanda and one of my favourites, Hirono, Labubu blends a dash of creepy with a whole lot of cute.
Wondering more about The Monsters? Well, here’s a quick rundown on some characters. Labubu are all female, while Zimomo is male; he’s larger and has a tail. Mokoko is female and the only one like her; she is light pink, with a white belly and a heart-shaped nose (rather than the triangle ones most Labubu have). Then, of course, there is Tycoco, a skeleton character who is Labubu’s boyfriend (yes, really). As well as Spooky, Pato and Yaya.
At the moment, there have been 3 versions of The Monsters Labubu pendants: Macarons, Have a Seat and Big Into Energy, with each set including 6 regular figures, which you have a 1/6 chance of pulling and a secret which offers a 1/72 chance.
There have also been some special releases, such as Let’s Check Mate and a blind box series in collaboration with Coca-Cola, too.
Why the Coca-Cola Labubu Has Fans Buzzing

Late in 2024, the Coca-Cola x Labubu collection was realised, with 3 different Labubu to collect (2 regular and one secret). With that red and white branding we all know, alongside the fluffy signature Labubu flair, these figures are pure pop culture gold.
The red-and-white packaging? Iconic.
The vintage soda-shop aesthetic? Chef’s kiss.
The chance to pull a rare figure? Yes Please!.
Why Collectable Toys Like Labubu Are So Popular

There’s more to Labubu than just shelf (or bag) appeal. Here’s why these figures are such a hit:
- Stress relief & joy: Unboxing a mystery blind box taps into that child inside us all and brings about a little rush of serotonin. It’s like the grown-up version of a Kinder Surprise.
- Creative expression: Many collectors use figures to decorate desks, bags, curate themed shelves, or even create flat-lays and social posts. What you do with yours is up to you!
- Limited edition magic: The chase of the secret is always fun, will you manage to pull your favourite colour?
- Community vibes: Collectors connect online to trade, display, and come together to talk about their recent pulls and full collections, making it about more than just the toys. There are some great Discord communities about!
So no matter if you are into kawaii characters, pop culture mashups, or just love adding a little weird-cute energy to your day, Labubu might just be your new obsession.
Competition
If you have been trying your hardest to get a Labubu but have been failing, then here’s another chance as I have a Coca Cola x Labubu to give away (I should also have some Big into Energy later in the year). To be fully honest, I have opened this from the bottom, but I’ve reglued it, so you get all the fun of finding out which one you have pulled.
To enter, all you need to do is follow the options on the Gleam widget below:
Win a Coca-Cola x Labubu Blind Box.There is no mandatory entry option in this competition; all entries are optional. However, entering via multiple methods gives you more entries into the final draw.
Good Luck!
