3 Tips To Stay Physically Healthy When At Work
Did you know that it’s incredibly easy to lose control of your physical health when at work? We’ve spoken about mental health in the workplace before, as it is a major cause of stress and anxiety in millions. But, what is it about your job that can impact physical health? If you work a manual labour job, it’s easy to see how this can possibly hurt you. For those of you with office jobs, it’s much harder to understand where you can see physical health issues.
Hopefully, after reading these tips to stay healthy at work, you’ll see where the main problems lie…

Stand up and stretch
A big problem with modern workplaces is that they encourage you to sit still for hours on end. This can be awful for your physical health as it means you burn fewer calories in the day, and your body gets used to being in a seated position. This can mean you gain weight, and it damages your physical posture, leading to chronic pain that can last a lifetime.
To stop these issues, all you need to do is stand up and stretch every so often. Set a timer on your phone for 30-60 minutes, standing up when it goes off and stretching for a minute or two. It keeps you active and allows you to correct some of the postural problems that might be manifesting themselves.
Follow the manual handling guidelines
Even if you work in an office, you will have manual handling training. It’s a requirement for most workplaces to ensure that employees know how to safely pick things up and move them around. You need to follow these guidelines whenever you go to pick something slightly heavy up – for example, a box full of paper documents. Lift this in the wrong way, and you can easily throw your back out.
While this technically counts as a workplace injury, it’s unlikely you can claim compensation for it. Unless, as noted by Aston Knight Solicitors, your employer was negligent. In this instance, failing to train you in manual handling or providing clear guidelines is an example of negligence. So, be sure you know how to pick things up to protect your back and avoid physical health problems – not to mention the awkward legal proceedings.

Bring your own lunch
A massive problem with working people is that you don’t eat well when you’re in the workplace. You go and buy the quickest thing you can find, which is usually a sandwich or some type of fast food. You also get sugary snacks to provide energy throughout the day, which is never going to be good for your physical health.
Again, this can lead to weight gain, and the best solution is to bring your own lunch. Make a healthy lunch the day before, and you have a fast and nutritious solution when you’re hungry. Pack some healthy snacks for during the day as well, and you can take better care of your physical health.
Start applying these three tips to your daily work routine and you will begin to feel a lot better physically.
