July 20 – Life in a Lockdown #68
So yesterday saw “Freedom Day” or “Freedoom Day” happen. The English government were begged by scientist around the world not to go ahead, but hey when did they listen to Science. People queued up at midnight to be let into clubs, no masks, no social distancing and lots of COVID.. Perhaps..
Old BoJo also decided to trial a new way of working on himself when he had been in contact with someone who tested positive for COVID, which meant he could basically get on with things as long as he took a test every day. This was soon U-Turned when people didn’t like it.. Ah one rule for them and another for us again.
This is the last week (for now) you will see Life in a Lockdown, we are going to change to Life After a Lockdown from next week. After a chat with Bex and Sam, we thought it would be nice to mix things up a bit. So new questions, new name. At least until we had back into lockdown.

So what did week 68 hold:
1) How are you feeling/coping?
Freedom Day has me worried, the fact that all restrictions have been taken away at once, while we already have rising cases seems absolute madness.
I do hope the fact that a lot of people have been vaccinated helps keep hospitals from being overwhelmed. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if we ended up back in lockdown at some point.
2) What have you been up to over the past 7 days?
Not much, I had one day of energy last week and used it doing some washing and taking some blog photos, which absolutely wore me out. Thank you ME!
It always amazes me how quickly I can struggle even after doing something small.
We went to my parents on Sunday as it had been 35 years since I had been adopted. So we had a bit of a bite to eat to celebrate.
The rest of the time we’ve been hiding inside because it is TOO HOT.
3) What is your favourite post of the past 7 days (it could be yours or someone else’s)?
This post on Freedom Day by Top Lady Talks is a really good post. I am really struggling with the fact things could / will get worse especially with my health conditions. This is something that a lot of disability rights campaigners are talking about as well.
4) Do you have any plans for lockdown easing?
No, for me I’ll probably still carry on much like when we were in lockdown. I might be double jabbed but I am still worried about how COVID would react with my body.
We are going on a holiday which had been put off since last year, but how much we will go and about during that I don’t know.
5) What have you bought this week that others might like? (Especially if from a small business.
Another Instagram purchase, this time from @gemsmakemyday. I did share this over on my personal Instagram @iamsarahlouiseb last week and it is a mix of a win / purchase.
I was lucky enough to win the Pikachu statue and the others fell into my basket during a live sale!
Personally, I absolutely love carvings at the moment and these are definitely some of my favourites.
6) What have you been grateful for over the past 7 days?
My family, each year when my adoption anniversary rolls around, I remember how lucky I am that I had a family who both adopted me and accepted me with all my issues and flaws.
7) What would you like the future to know about life during a pandemic?
Everything is heightened, good emotions, bad emotions, everything. Sometimes it hard to feel like your feet are still grounded on the floor.
8) Anything else you would like to mention?

I heard about Freedom Day on the news. It’s the same over here – whenever the restrictions are relaxed, the covid numbers surge again

It is so sad isn’t it – we don’t seem to be able to protect ourselves as humans, we need to be told what to do.
That pikachu and all the others are so cute. I know what you mean about freedom day, I still find the whole thing very odd that all of a sudden you can be in a crowd of thousands of people at a gig/ club etc. But I’m taking it easy and will see how it goes, esp as my second vaccine in a few weeks time x
It is crazy isn’t it – I can work out how it is all suddenly “OK” it just doesn’t make sense at all!
i’m fully vaccinated and don’t wear a mask, like most Texans, unless it’s store policy
It is interesting to hear how things are different around the world.
There are still so many uncertainties these days. I still do feel uneasy when going outside even if I’ve been fully vaccinated. My face mask is my comfort so I’d continue to wear it so long as the pandemic is ongoing.
It is hard isn’t it – especially as the vaccine doesn’t make us immune just hopefully stops us getting so ill.
I do hope that you get to go on some sort of vacay. I know it’s much needed for all of us!

I’m being very cautious too. I still wear a mask in shops and don’t go out much although I didn’t go out much before all this lockdown business so for me not much has changed. I love Pikachu and the stone it’s made from although I don’t remember the name of it.
It’s hard isn’t it – Ash said that most people seem to be wearing their masks still when it hopes which is good to hear.

I still wear face masks in public, I wish I wouldn’t have to but of course I would, since we are all responsible for each other.
Definitely – I think it is something I will always go back to when I am feeling under the weather as well.
It is pretty lax in the states, this is my first time learning about Freedom Day.
It has definitely caused some ripples in the science community!
Oh that Pikachu statue is ADORABLE! I am so annoyed that Boris yet again ignored scientists advice – it is going to come back to bite us on the bum.
It really is – but if that WhatsApp that Cummings has released is real that says everything really.
Personally I have not changed anything. I went to a couple of shops today and still wore my mask. I just feel like it is the sensible thing to do, so many people are having to isolate at the moment
Definitely, we all need to try and protect ourselves I think and look after others too. If people in hospitals can wear them for long times, we can wear them in a shop I think.
I have spent a lot of time working in our garden and other yard projects. I am fearful of the future right now and just hanging at home!
I don’t blame you at all I really hope things go OK though and keep my fingers crossed.
I am so over face masks. I feel like we will always have sickness and should not put our life on hold.
Honestly I quite like the idea of wearing them when we feel under the weather but still need to go to protect others.

It’s a bit crazy, the fact everything is open when we are going up in cases and deaths, but hey that’s our government they just care about the economy! I am doing the same, you can at the very least try and protect yourself can’t you?
I have been to Primark today with my Mum and C, I did not wear a mask but had one with me. It was interesting seeing the reactions of those with them and those without them. Bless her C did amazingly and has come home with a good haul, but was suffering in the end this is the thing with ME you get a little energy and it can be wiped out so quickly
