Have You Ticked Off These Winter Jobs?
There is nothing fun about getting the house ready for winter. You could go from really enjoying the frost accumulating in the mornings, to freezing your elbows off in the living room of your home! You shouldn’t have to feel cold within the four walls of your home, but the only way that you can make sure that you feel comfortable is to properly winterize your house and get it ready.
Ticking off those winter jobs is a must, and you have to consider whether you have implemented proper winterization of your home before the season really does set in. When it’s freezing cold outside, you need to take care of everything possible to make sure that you can enjoy the snow drifting past the window in peace. Here are some of the key jobs you need to tick off when you want to get your home ready for winter.

- The Heating System. Calling in the experts for your heating system is a must. You can only do so much when it comes to your comfort, and the experts at TPS plumbing and gas could help! You should give your heating system a look over as soon as you can, and this will ensure that you have tested it fully before the cold sets in. You don’t want your boiler to clap out on you if you can avoid it!
- Replace Air Filters. Your HVAC doesn’t just give you air conditioning. You need to replace your air filters before the winter sets in. This is a twice a year job and each HVAC has its own air filter requirement. Follow the recommendations from your manufacturer, and check to see if it’s running properly. If you know your HVAC is running well, you’ll find it to keep you warm without freezing up on you.
- Test Your Alarms. Your carbon monoxide alarm needs to be tested by the fire department when you are winterizing your house. With the heating coming back on for the first time in a few months, you’re going to worry about carbon monoxide leaks more than ever. Carbon monoxide is a silent killer and with the right alarm, you’ll pick up the leak – you won’t be able to sniff it out!
- Get Your Chimney Inspected. Your fireplace and your flue need to be looked at to ensure that they can be used safely in the winter season. Get the professionals in to inspect it so that you know it’s not going to be a fire hazard!
- Wrap Your Pipes. One of the biggest issues in the winter is exploding pipes. When they flood out, you’re going to be dealing with a broken water system, no hot water and a huge bill for cracked pipes to be fixed all over again. You need to review the outside pipes and use pool noodles and insulating blankets to warm them through.
Each of these jobs needs to be ticked off before the winter weather really sets in. A Merry Christmas is only merry when you’re warm!
