  1. Thank you for all your ideas – I wouldn’t be without my large house plants but as we have full length windows without sills they have to stand on the floor. I move them (with difficulty)when my daughter’s puppy visits as she is at the stage of wanting to chew everything and with a new grandson on the way I think I may have to relocate some of them to a safer place!

  2. I’m currently in the process of trying to bring some of outside, indoors. In particular, I’m attempting to decorate my hallway with an outdoorsy/woodland theme. Some fab tips that I’ll be putting into action 🙂 I personally feel that plants add so much more than decoration to a home, I feel they add calmness and peacefulness. My top tip is to bring succulent and cacti into the home, they are so easy to care for but they look beautiful and can make a great focal piece… even my cats approve too!

  3. I love having plants inside the house – just bought a couple of new ones when we went to Ikea (they are great value there if you happen to be visiting) – I don’t have much luck with Christmas or Easter cactus!

I can’t wait to sort our garden out this year, we have waited so long to move and we finally did in September, it was a little late to start then so this will be my first year of planting beautiful flowers, like you I’m not a fan of the sun, which is why I’ve never been or desired being abroad, I love flowers indoors, they brighten up the place, natural light is great too, apart from when its on the TV and I can’t watch my programmes that is lol xXx

  9. I have to admit, I LOVE scattering succulents around my home. I tend to go for artificial ones rather than real though. Otherwise I end up killing them off rather quickly!

  10. I love bringing nature and garden into the home and unlike yourself, often struggle to keep the plant alive. But that does not stop me. These 5 steps are great ideas for sure especially now that spring is arriving.

    1. It’s good to keep on trying when you can’t I think (or at least that’s what I tell myself lol).

  16. I didn’t think I was a plant gal, until my DIL gave me one for a house warming gift that couldn’t die. Now… it’s been alive for a year. I’m definitely loving the little bit of outside being brought inside.

  20. I do everything to try and bring the outside in, it makes me feel so much happier to have those little touches from the light to plants (although I wish I was a bit greener fingered, so many of them die!)

    1. I am the same, I used to spend most of my time outside and now I can’t really so it’s nice to have a bit of it inside.

    1. It’s such a shame isn’t it – my Mum and her friend brought two plants, on the same day, from the same place, looked after the same – one flourished the other didn’t die but it didn’t take off in the same way it is so odd.

  24. Great article, thank you! I’m a fan of natural colours and materials, and of letting the light in when I can. It makes a huge difference to how it feels to be indoors.

  25. My main goal this year is to get more light into the house. I always feel better when I’m able to see natural light.

  26. It seems every time I try to grow anything it fails. I use so many herbs, spices and veggies, I’m going to give it another try with the kids. Get some nice herbs growing for the kitchen.

  28. Love the plants idea, we had a few plants my Nan bought and my mum managed to kill them .. so we got a cactus thinking it would be easier, she killed them aswell (unreal lol), so my Nan then bought her a plant that needs no care .. weirdly enough it died a month later.

    I think I’ll stick with natural lighting as an outside in and not plants ?

  29. I always love bright colors in the house! I’m glad we have windows that brings in light as well. I could not have a dark house–it would make me tired!

    I wish I could have plants but alas, I tend to kill them.

    1. I have to admit I have one plant that’s been with me for years, I neglect it so badly but it seems to thrive.

  35. Great tips in this article for bringing the outdoors inside. I always bring flowers and yard clippings indoors during spring and summer.

  37. I love to have the light shining in through our windows. When we can keeping the windows open for the outside to come in. Having living plants in the house makes it feel like home and helps freshen our air.

  40. My favorite tip is letting in the light! I like bright and open spaces and one way I achieve it is by having lots of windows to let in that light. I love the idea of bi-folding doors.
