5 Ideas to Bring the Outside, Inside
Do you love the garden like me? OK I might not have green fingers (more like black thumbs), but I do like being outside. However, me and the sun don’t really get along and as such, I sometimes like to bring a feeling of the outdoors into the home. So I thought I would bring to you 5 ideas I have come across that are great for helping bring the outside, inside.
5 Ideas to Bring the Outside, Inside
Plants
Perhaps the most simple and obvious way is to incorporate plants into your home, you can do this in all different ways, from buying ready potted plants from your local garden centre (or even supermarket). To if you are good at gardening, growing your own. Personally, we normally pick up little baskets of flowers when we are out and about and have them dotted around the home. Though I must admit things like succulents and of course my Christmas Cactus are the easiest ones to look after and seem to flourish even when I forget about them.
Let in the Light
One thing about bringing the outside in is allowing light into your home. I’ve previously written some tips here. However, if you are lucky enough then adding something such as bi-folding doors from Quickslide. This can not only maximise the light coming in, but once the better weather comes around you can have them open wide.
Use Natural Accessories
Why not look for things you could use as accessories while out on a walk. Things like pinecones can look lovely placed in a bowl, and if you are feeling creative you could even think about painting and decorating them. While twigs, driftwood, leaves, fallen antlers (yes, deer do shed their antlers yearly and grow a new pair and you can often buy them cleaned and ready for decorative use). Just let your creativity flow with the things you see around you.
Use Natural Materials
If you want to go a step further than accessories, you can use natural materials for things like your flooring and furniture. There are some absolutely beautiful natural wood countertops on the market, as well as tables and sideboard to match.
Use Colours Inspired by Nature
If you want to start from the base up, then why not decorate in colours inspired by nature. Think greens, blues, yellows for your brighter colours, while neutrals can work well when it comes to beige, cream and white. Having these colours as your bases can really help you bring the outdoors in and let you work with anything you find around you.

Thank you for all your ideas – I wouldn’t be without my large house plants but as we have full length windows without sills they have to stand on the floor. I move them (with difficulty)when my daughter’s puppy visits as she is at the stage of wanting to chew everything and with a new grandson on the way I think I may have to relocate some of them to a safer place!
I love indoor plants
Thanks for the tips – definitely need to get some more plants!
I’m currently in the process of trying to bring some of outside, indoors. In particular, I’m attempting to decorate my hallway with an outdoorsy/woodland theme. Some fab tips that I’ll be putting into action 🙂 I personally feel that plants add so much more than decoration to a home, I feel they add calmness and peacefulness. My top tip is to bring succulent and cacti into the home, they are so easy to care for but they look beautiful and can make a great focal piece… even my cats approve too!
I love having plants inside the house – just bought a couple of new ones when we went to Ikea (they are great value there if you happen to be visiting) – I don’t have much luck with Christmas or Easter cactus!
Ikea do some amazing things don’t they – sadly we don’t have one really close by.

I can’t wait to sort our garden out this year, we have waited so long to move and we finally did in September, it was a little late to start then so this will be my first year of planting beautiful flowers, like you I’m not a fan of the sun, which is why I’ve never been or desired being abroad, I love flowers indoors, they brighten up the place, natural light is great too, apart from when its on the TV and I can’t watch my programmes that is lol xXx
Great ideas you have here. I love bright and cheerful colours in the home.
It is nice isn’t it – something quite soothing about it.
In the middle of Spring Cleaning so this has given me some great ideas x

Oh go for it! They are lovely to have around the home.
I have to admit, I LOVE scattering succulents around my home. I tend to go for artificial ones rather than real though. Otherwise I end up killing them off rather quickly!

I am the same, I used to spend most of my time outside and now I can’t really so it’s nice to have a bit of it inside.
I wish I could keep my plants alive 🙁 They always look so lovely when I see them flourishing at other peoples houses. I’m really into lots of natural light at the moment as well 🙂
It’s such a shame isn’t it – my Mum and her friend brought two plants, on the same day, from the same place, looked after the same – one flourished the other didn’t die but it didn’t take off in the same way it is so odd.

My main goal this year is to get more light into the house. I always feel better when I’m able to see natural light.
It’s well worth having a nose at my post about that specifically if it’s goal 🙂
Great ideas. I have also a few pinecones around the house that we pick up while on walks.
It seems every time I try to grow anything it fails. I use so many herbs, spices and veggies, I’m going to give it another try with the kids. Get some nice herbs growing for the kitchen.
You can get some lovely pots so you can grow them in the window which is nice.
Lots of lovely ideas there. Funnily enough I have a bowl of pine cones right now, thanks to a tiny person intent on bringing stacks home each time we go for a walk! 😀
Pinecones are awesome! I used to love picking them up when I was smaller.
What great ideas! My favorite is using colors from nature!
There is so much you can take ideas from in nature isn’t there.
Love the plants idea, we had a few plants my Nan bought and my mum managed to kill them .. so we got a cactus thinking it would be easier, she killed them aswell (unreal lol), so my Nan then bought her a plant that needs no care .. weirdly enough it died a month later.
I think I’ll stick with natural lighting as an outside in and not plants ?
Oh no what a nightmare for you all! I have to admit I’ve managed similar in the past as well.
I always love bright colors in the house! I’m glad we have windows that brings in light as well. I could not have a dark house–it would make me tired!

You can look to get more hardy ones that’s what I have to do anyway!

My favorite tip is letting in the light! I like bright and open spaces and one way I achieve it is by having lots of windows to let in that light. I love the idea of bi-folding doors.
