Visit Brighton Pier with Tilly and Vicky
Today I am handing over my blog to a lovely blogging friend Vicky – she is taking us on a trip to the fantastic Brighton Pier, somewhere I really should go and visit myself one day soon.
My name is Vicky and I have been blogging at Being Tilly’s Mummy for 5 years, but now I blog at www.misstillyandme.co.uk. We blog about a variety of things and you can also find us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Have you ever been to Brighton? The pier has to be one of the most iconic places in the country. We live in a seaside town and we have a pier but its such a small pier and only gets used for strolling down and by fishermen. There is a cafe on the end, that doesn’t really get used and has recently closed down. But when you see Brighton pier, there is nothing so magnificent! You could actually spend all day on the pier and still find new things to do. So we have put together a list of things to do on Brighton Pier.
Photo Props
These are a free activity to do on the pier and they are a typically traditional seaside activity. I don’t care how old you are, you always want your picture taken with the animated scene. They make the funniest pictures and give a real seaside vibe.
Fair
This is a really expensive activity on the pier, we are talking most rides costing about £5 each, this is expensive if you’re a family on a budget. But there are wristbands available for about £22 and then you can ride on as many rides as you want. This is great in the summer if you’re there all day and you can go back and forth to the rides, but we went in March and it was drizzly so we only have a couple of rides. You buy your ride tokens from a booth, which is put on a card and then you give the ride operator your card to swipe.
Tarot Reading
Again, this is a fun and traditional fair/seaside activity. Although I believe in the activity in Tarot, I think if you’re doing it at a travelling fair or at the seaside, its more for fun. The tarot Reader on Brighton pier sits in a traditional gypsy caravan too.
Penny Arcade
You have to love the penny arcade. We go in with £1 and change it up to 2p pieces and try to win the tacky toy that’s hanging off the edge of the machine. Of course to end up putting in about £4 to win the plastic toy that’s worth about 20p, but its the thrill of winning.
Bars
You will find Victoria’s Bar, that has been there since I was a teenager and I am 45 now! Its conveniently placed half way down the pier and you can stop for a glass of wine whilst your kids go off and spend time at the fair. Obviously only do this if your kids are old enough to go off on their own, don’t be sending your 5 year old to the fair whilst you drink wine in the bar.
Food Concessions
There are food concessions all the way down the pier from Mexican to pancakes, so if you just want a little sweet snack or a full meal you will find something to fill you up.
Deck chairs
Whenever you go to the beach, you always see deckchairs. These are often to hire by the hour but on Brighton pier, they are free to use, you just take one from the side and place it where you want to sit. You could sit and watch the world go by for hours in the summer. I love this idea because it beats the problems of enough seating on the pier and when you have finished, you just fold it up and pop it away.
Shops
As well as the food concessions, you will see some cute little gift shops and sweet shops. Everyone wants ‘seaside sweets’ when they go to the seaside. So the shops are full of dozens of different rocks, lolly dummies and candy floss. You will also find shops with Brighton souvenirs like ‘I love Brighton’ jumpers and kiss me quick hats.

I’ve only been to Brighton once and that was on a work trip so I didn’t get to see much – except quite a few bars! Still its only a short trip from London so hopefully I can visit this summer (it better be warm!)
