Customise Your Clothes
I think we all like to make things our own and just a little bit different from the norm and there are so many easy we can do it, especially when it comes to fashion. So why not stop for a moment before you throw out that old top and instead think about what you could do to make it like new.
Cut it.
This is probably the easiest of the lot to do, think about it, while ripped jeans might be in fashion, they aren’t for us all. So if you fall over and manage to tear your favourite pair, but don’t fancy rocking the ripped look, how about turning them into a pair of shorts? After all we should hopefully have some more sun on the way to make it the perfect summer item of clothing.
Patch it.
Back in my youth I used to love adding things to clothes and while perhaps the band patches of then aren’t quite what people would add today, there are many different items you could add to your clothes, think of things you could clip to collars such as studs to make your clothing just a little bit different from it used to.
Embroider it.
If you’re lucky you might be able to do this one yourself if you can’t, then never fear, as many places now offer you the ability to buy personalised embroidered clothing. After all gone are the days when you needed to be part of a club or society to have something you love put on your top, these days you can easily DIY or buy, your personal saying or logo on an item of clothing.
Accessorise it.
If you aren’t feeling up to actually cutting, ripping or sewing your clothes than look at the accessories you wear with them, after all adding in a new necklace or bracelet can make all the difference to the overall look of an outfit.
So that is just a few ideas on how to make an outfit more “you”, but what about you, what ideas do you have?

I don’t really change my clothes as I am scared off messing them up.
You could start with something you would throw out anyway and see if you can make it so you would like to keep it, you haven’t lost anything then 🙂 x
There’s nothing like the feeling of new clothes and I guess the same goes with customising older ones! Win Win!

I used to customise loads but not so much now. I’m big on accessories. You can totally change how an outfit looks with shoes, jewelry, bags and hair!
Sometimes that is just easier isn’t it and like you say it changes the look so much it works just as well. x
I’ve never tried to customise my clothes before, adding patches is something I’d really like to try tho!

Love this! I’m all about patches these days, but I also love to make my own shorts with an old pair of jeans.
I love to customize clothing from dyeing to applique. It’s always fun to have an “original.”

This is something that I am definitely not good at! I am not a fashionista and spend most of my time in cargo pants and a t-shirt. My sister on the other hand can turn an absolute disaster into a masterpiece and have anyone looking like a million bucks before walking out the door. I’ll be sure to share with her!
I always try to accessorise my clothing with jewellery. I love buying different chains – I’m growing my collection especially the long ones.
I wish I was more crafty and creative. I would love to customize my clothes with these ideas!

These are excellent tips. I tried pulling off the ripped jeans look. It just wasn’t for me. I didn’t think about adding a colorful patch behind it.

I do have a knack for cutting the collars and arms off T-shirts I buy as I hate normal T-shirts, they feel so restrictive. Other than that I am totally useless at customising my clothes x
I often cut the necks of men’s tshirts I buy – I don’t know why but they feel restrictive don’t know how men put up with it lol x

One little dress is a must on my clothing. I normally choose clothes based on my shoes. hehe
When I was in high school I would cut my t-shirts and make them “cuter”. It’s been so long since I’ve even thought about that. Oh and I used to cut my jeans, so fun.
These are some wonderful tips. I’m not always the best at customizing clothing, but I try. I think accessories really make an outfit stand out too.

These are clever ideas to customize clothes. I was never good at these things, though.
That’s one skill set my mother into gave my little sister, she can customise no problem but me good lord no lol

My wife is very into fashion!! I know she is always talking about how she has to accessorize, I just know that she has a very full closet.
I suck at fashion, always have. Things never look the way on me that they do in my head.
I often customise my cloths and add extras to ten when Iget fed up with them to create a new look. It’s a cheap way to revive old cloths.

I’ve always been afraid to modify my own clothes. I’m afraid of making them look hideous. I would love to try though.
Start with something old you would otherwise throw out and see if you can make it keepable – that way if it goes wrong you haven’t lost a much loved top 🙂 x

I saw a really cute shirt the other day that had a crocheted border on the sleeves and the bottom hem. I’m currently scouring the web for a pattern.

Some great ideas there, I don’t think I’ve done any customising of my clothes for many years. I have in the past added a little trim, or extra contrasting material, to my short skirts to make them a little longer, particularly as I have really long legs.
It is something I miss doing – just adding a little bit extra to something to make it unique. x
