6 Car Insurance Tips To Get The Best Deal
The average car insurance policy cost in the UK is just a shade under £700 and it’s one of those unavoidable costs involved with running a vehicle that can prove a drain on your finances.
You don’t just have to accept the pain, though. You can ease the burden by adopting the following six tips, which should help you to search out the best deal.

Look at the insurance before you buy or lease.
You should think about car insurance as soon as possible, using websites such as One Sure Insurance.
That means considering the cost side by side with the process of purchasing a vehicle or browsing deals.
By doing so you’re able to properly budget for your policy and not be stung by a bill beyond your means.
The future cost of your insurance policy might be the determining factor between two potential vehicles you are weighing up.
Search everywhere.
The wonders of the world wide web mean that it is now incredibly easy to run a search on comparison sites to get quotes from scores of different potential providers.
Don’t just stick to one search engine though and remember that Direct Line and Aviva – two fairly big players in this market – don’t appear on those comparison sites and might be able to offer you a better deal than you’re getting elsewhere.
Weigh up your excess.
As This Is Money notes, raising the cost of your excess can help to cut the cost of your policy premium.
Don’t go over the top though, aim to set the amount you’ll pay towards accident repairs at a level you’d be comfortable with and which doesn’t push up your premium too high.
Remember that you will recover the excess anyway if you’re involved in a collision that isn’t your fault.
Consider black box.
Telematic technology allows drivers to fit tracking ‘black boxes’ to their cars that relay information to the motorist’s insurance provider.
This black box insurance is worth considering, especially if you’re a young driver or an older motorist who doesn’t venture out during peak times. This is because insurance companies make assumptions about the level of risk you pose when issuing standard policies.
By fitting a black box, you could prove that you are a safe and careful driver who should pay less for their insurance and overcome the assumptions made about the types of driver listed above. It doesn’t work for everyone, but is an option that you should keep open.
Security devices.
You can increase your standing in the eyes of insurance companies by fitting security devices to your car.
Alarms and immobilisers can shave a decent amount of the cost off your premium. Some cars have these fitted as standard – don’t forget to point this out when you obtain a quote.
Pay in one go
Paying your insurance off monthly might seem the most natural thing to do but this will result in you paying more over the course of the contract.
At least consider paying it all in one go or, if you’d rather, look into paying your annual sum off with a zero per cent credit card. You can then pay this balance off monthly, without the added interest.

I agree with searching everywhere. Not because you feel like it is already the one you are looking for is you will stop there to look for more great deals. Sometimes it is worthy to research more.
It can be so easy to just go with the first one sometimes but definitely searching around is key to getting the best deal.x
These are great tips! Thank you for posting about what to look for and how to find the best of the best. Insurance can be a pain but in the long run, I guess if you need it, be glad you have it.
My husband has been with the same car insurance for at least 40 years. I thought we were paying high premiums but turned out we got the best deal. I was a happy camper when I found that out.
I thought black boxes were only on airplanes. I learnt something new today. You make some very valid points because believe me car insurance is way too high
The price of car insurance can be really outrageous. That is especially true if you are young. The black box is a smart way to get around high. costs if you are a careful driver.
Car insurance is one of those necessary evils but you definitely have to shop around to get the best rates.
We always say we are insurance poor. That’s what happens when a good friend is an insurance agent! Now that our girls are off our policies it is a bit better. Good tip!
Getting deals with almost anything is what we all like specially with a little more expensive once like the car insurance. Thanks for the tip.
It is always cheaper to pay the insurance in one lump sum if you can. We try to do that when we can, but it isn’t always feasible. I definitely recommend it if you can.
So glad that we have a great insurance company but if there were any way to make it cheaper I would definitely do it with these tips!
I am happy when my price went down a little this last time when I renewed but looking into other options is not a bad idea to make sure that I am not just settling.
The idea of paying this off in one go is scary but you are right that you end up paying more if you don’t. Great advice!
