5 Ways To Make Housework Easier
OK, I’ll be honest with you, as much as I hate housework there are days when I wish I could do it.
Yes, I honestly look at someone vacuuming and wish that was me.
Over the years between Ash and I, we have come up with ways to make it possible for me to help out with housework in some small ways and to make it easier.
I thought I would share some of them with you.
Set a Timer.

One thing I definitely have to is time myself. On a good day, I can so easily overdo things, wanting to make up for anything I have missed on previous days.
So I have to set myself time limits. Often all I’m doing is sat on the floor being passed items to dust. Or just pointing out items to Ash.
However, even the smallest thing can really tire me out.
If you do struggle with stopping, or get overtired, you may be surprised how much you can get done even when setting yourself a timer.
Get Help.
Since we moved to the bungalow one thing we decided is we would have a cleaner come in.
They normally come once a month and do big deep clean for us, although we know we can call on them anytime we need them.
As well as cleaners there are companies you can call on to help yourself with housework.
One thing that is becoming more common to get help with around the home, is your laundry. In fact, laundry services are popping up all around the country.
Offering a home pick up laundry service, that takes your items, wash, dry and iron them, before delivering the laundry right back to you. All thanks to the help of a good industrial washing machine.
Make it Enjoyable.

OK, so there’s no way to make housework completely enjoyable. However, you can bring in something to make it a little more enjoyable at least.
Think music to dance and sing to, the TV to catch up on your favourite soap or an audiobook to help you catch up on the reading.
All these ideas can at least give you something to enjoy and take your mind of the monotony of cleaning.
Don’t Strive for Perfection.
Sometimes we all get caught up in trying to do our jobs to perfection. This can mean we spend way too long trying to finish one job.
So when you are doing your household chores try and remember that done is better than perfect. Hopefully, this will lead to a change in your mindset on how things should and need to be done.
Go Automatic.

One thing that changed my life was going automatic.
From getting a washer/dryer all in one, to having the addition of a dishwasher.
Items like these can really help you save time and energy when cleaning around the home.
One day perhaps I’ll try a good robot vacuum as well.
So there I have some tips for you on making housework easier, I would love to know however what your top tip is to your chores more manageable?

Housework sucks! Our house is clean but messy. I believe a house is for expressions, not impressions!
Any tips to make housework that bit easier are appreciated. I find that doing a bit every day helps and then I have a monthly splurge where I really go to town on each room.
I have 4 adults 3 children and 3 long haired collies, even with a robot cleaner, I dont think I would ever get all the rooms clean at the same time
Oh gosh, I bet that can be fun cleaning up after!
Some great advice, always looking for ways to make housework easier, and have more time to chill out
It’s something I think we all want to make as quick and easy as possible isn’t it.
Great tips, id love to make housework easier, my 3 year old makes it really hard haha
Oh gosh – trying to help but being anything but?
I love any tips that make the housework easier, the timer is a great idea
It makes things so much easier, doesn’t it when you have some tips and tricks.
I don’t mind cleaning so much as I put on some music and it really helps to make it more enjoyable. I hate ironing so I use an ironing sevice, wouldn’t be without it.
I think having something on in the background can really make a difference.
I love a clean house as most of us do and love some of these tips, I suffer with chronic back problems for over 20 years so am unable to do a lot of things
There’s something more relaxing about a clean home isn’t there?
Lots of good tips – i like the set a timer idea!
It is so useful, keeps you on track a bit.
My robovac has died and I miss it. Need to invest in a new one
Oh no! I hope you manage to get a new one soon.
I haven’t had a chance to test out a robot vacuum cleaner but anything to get out of housework has to be a good ides
I hope you get to try one for yourself one day.
I like to get my jobs done in the morning so I can enjoy the rest of the day without worrying about things still to do 🙂
Ohh that sounds nice – then you can relax the rest of the day.
I so agree about playing music whilst doing the housework: it helps it to be more enjoyable- and you work to the rhythm of the music! I also set a timer and tend to a little each day rather than a lot on one day!
It can make all the difference can’t it just having something to listen to while you do the worst tasks.
i love making things clean but need a bit of oomph to get up and do it somedays!. thanks for the tips x
It is hard isn’t it – it’s like so nice when it’s done but actually being bothered yuck.
I hate housework just the thought of it makes me tired . I tend to rush at It to get it done o r sit and think about it . I’d love a robot lol
It’s just such a meh thing to do isn’t it – so many more fun things to be done lol
I really don’t like housework, there’s so many other things I would rather be doing, I think I need to take notice of your fourth point though, everything takes me so long because it has to be perfect, and I just end up frustrated with it all. I guess that’s the autistic part of me!
It’s hard isn’t it – I like things to be perfect too and it’s just a nightmare trying to get it all right all the time.
When our kids were little we had 30-minute pickup every Saturday. It was a great way to get them to help out! When the timer went off, they were done.
We have a robot vacuum and it helps, but we still need to sweep or spot vacuum because it always misses the corners that have the most dog hair.
That sounds like such a great idea!
I was going to say they can’t get everything quite can they – but definitely a help.
I find that I don’t mind doing housework so much now that I view it as exercise rather than as a chore. So when I go up and down stairs carrying laundry, I make sure to check a fitness app to see how much exercise I’m doing. I also try to do chores such as ironing while listening to music, as it makes it go much faster.
That’s a good way to look at it – it’s meant to be really good for you when it comes to burning calories!
I dislike it too! In fact I have a housekeeper and it is the best money I spend each month. I love your suggestion of using a timer though. Great tips!
They are so good aren’t they – honestly I don’t know what I would do without our cleaners.
Make a cleaning schedule and print it off this is a good one https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/home/cleaning/a37462/how-often-you-should-clean-everything/
Ohh thank you I’ll have to check it out!
some great ideas, always hoovering or cleaning, seems non stop
It’s a never-ending job, isn’t it?
I love the idea of setting a timer! This is something I had never thought of before but I think would be best for my sanity!
Definitely worth doing – your be amazes how much you still get done I think.
Setting a timer is really helpful. It would prevent you to overdo some things so that you wont miss out on the other chores. Thanks for this post really helpful
I think we can all overdo things so easily as well, can’t we?
I love cleaning and try to enjoy it as much as possible when I am doing it because it really can be a therapeutic experience.
It is amazing how it is something people enjoy while others absolutely hate it.
Oh we do love to go automatic with housework. haha! Well, now I need some music when I do it.
It would be amazing wouldn’t it – just set something off to do everything lol.
I watch my favourite Netflix shows while I iron so I know I’ll get it done.
It’s a great way to catch up with TV!
I really enjoyed reading this post. These tips are really helpful l. I love the concept of setting a timer.
It really does help, well worth doing.
What a neat idea about the timer! I never thought of that before, normally my to do list is my timer.
Oh yes, housework! The tedious task I don’t like to deal with. Ha! I love your tips to make housework easier, you nailed it with some ideas to help me get that tedious work done quickly.
Haha it is the worst isn’t it – I could do without having to do any of it – ever!
Fantastic tips! I find housework such a struggle to fit In, but I try to only do one room in a day so its not overwhelming, and only focus on one area in each room at a time and block the rest of the room out! Xx
It’s hard isn’t it? Sounds like you have a good routine going through.
We’re seriously considering getting a cleaner.
Honestly don’t know what we would do without ours now.
I would love to use a laundry service. It seems like that’s the one thing that I can never seem to get a handle on. I do love to crank up the music when cleaning the rest of the house. It does make the chores go by a little faster and a little more enjoyable.
It sounds such a good idea doesn’t it – hands up sometimes I even suck at throwing things in the washing machine.
I’m not even gonna lie. I seldom do housework. My husband is OCD and cleans constantly which leaves me free. I love it.
I really need to try playing an audiobook the next time I’m working on cleaning some rooms. Those tend to help me go on autopilot so I don’t have to think too much about the cleaning!
Ohh sounds like it might help you feel a little bit better about the cleaning at least.
I had a robot vacuum cleaner, but I shed SO much hair that I kept clogging it and would have to spend more time unclogging it than actually just manually cleaning lol.
Oh no that’s a shame – I shed a lot of hair so wonder if I would have the same issue – we have a cheap one we run under the bed but it’s not quite the same as running everywhere.
Ugh, I hate housework as well. I try to do a little each day so I don’t get overwhelmed. I don’t try to be perfect either. Our house definitely looks lived in!
It is the worst isn’t it – I could definitely do without having to do it at all.
For me, making housework “easier” is as simple as keeping it well maintained ALL the time. We haven’t had a house cleaner at our home for quite some time now because I keep cleaning things up every day.
Sounds like you have everything completely under control for you home.
Housework is never ending my house gets so dusty and I try to do a little bit whenever I can. I have a little robot vacuum and it has been a big help with not too much effort.
They seem like such a fun idea to have – just pop them on and off they go.
I love the idea of a robotic vacuum cleaner and also not to strive to perfection as it gets too stressful if you are trying to get all it done perfect
We have an old in-expensive one but I would love to get another one.
I dont have any disabilities, but my mum does, so we have to think of ways like yourself to make life easier for her to do light housework, ironing was her biggest problem, so we brought an ironing board which could lower so she could sit on a chair to do it,
That’s awesome – I am so glad you have found ways to help her out!
Would love a good robot vacuum too. Putting socks on your hands can speed up dusting add zoflora for that fresh lingering smell
Ohh that’s a good idea! I’m going to have to use the sock one and definitely going to use some zoflora.
I do like that expression “done is better than perfect”. My granddaughter is very good and does the hoovering and the floors for us, saves me kneeling and bending
Oh, bless her that’s lovely! I think we all need to try and remember things can be done but not perfect.
