5 ways to cheer yourself up
I think we all have days when we don’t feel so good when we are feeling a bit down in the dumps when a smile seems to be the hardest thing you can find. For some of us, it’s more than just a day, it can be weeks and months before we feel better and to be honest with you I am a little low in myself at the moment, so I thought hey why not make a list of things I like, things that can make me smile and see if doing any of them help cheer me up at all.
1. Playing with the animals.
There is something soothing about being around animals; in particular Sally has perfect the art of being a fool and at the worst time can have you in stitches by just being herself and acting a bit crazy and Dobby and Sock, well I don’t think I will ever get what goes on in their heads.
2. Reading.
I adore reading, taking myself off to another place, becoming someone else – I mean you can be anyone in the world of books a super sleuth, a crazy creature from the paranormal, an ordinary person who leads an extraordinary life; the choice is yours.
3. Pamper Yourself.
Ok this can be one of the hardest things do when you are low, even your normal everyday washing and cleaning can feel like a marathon, so why not grab a bath bomb, slap on a face mask and try and enjoy the time just a little bit more.
4. Be around those you love.
Once again this can be a hard one, often if you’re like me you just want to hide away from the world when you’re feeling your lowest, but getting up and out could be just what you need and you never know your friends and family just might bring a smile back to your face.
5. Make notes.
You can do this as often or as little as you want, but try and write down at least one thing a day that made you smile, or made you feel thankful for. Then when you are feeling blue you can flip back through your notes and remember all those good feelings.
How do you make yourself feel a little bit happier at bad times?

My cat cheers me up, baking, a walk and chocolate:-)
These are some great ideas. Everyone needs a pick-me-up every now and then. It’s good when you can do it yourself!
I find doing one of my hobbies helps too 🙂
Great tips. I was reading somewhere this week that Gratitude is also a good happiness ensurer! Being grateful for things every day is supposed to be really helpful! 🙂
Napping and watching Netflix with the door locked. That is happiness.
I agree, there is something about being around animals that cheer me up. Sometimes they find me when I need cheering up and then won’t leave me alone, I also find a good pamper session helps too.
Just looking at that dog pic makes me smile. I can’t resist a glass of wine and an episode of Project Runway when I’m feeling down.
Best way to cheer me up is to see my friends and open a bottle of bubbles, failing that, a good film will help forget any of the stresses.
Great tips, I find that my cats are the best way of cheering myself up.
You can guarantee my dog is always on hand to cheer me up if I am down x
Reading in a nice warm bubble bath does it for me. In fact after a day like today that is just what I need!
I hope you manage to get to spend some time to yourself tonight and relax 🙂 x
I blogged about my five ways to make myself happier last week and my top one was to smile because I always think that just smiling to myself makes me happier. I often have a grin on my face when I’m trying to cheer myself up which probably just makes me look weird 😉
Ohh I’m going to have to go and nose at your post now 🙂 I remember being told ages ago that if you pretend you are happy you can sometimes become happy so smiling it probably a very good way – will have to give it a try 🙂 X
what a great list! sometimes we are so worn out we dont know what we want but this looks like a good place to start x
Playing with animals is definitely a great way to cheer up. When I am sad I love having my pets with me.
Great tips. My older dog senses if I need cheering up and snuggles up to me and cheers me up. She is a tonic
i am feeling beat with it all and heading off to be pampered in the morning 🙂
Some great tips – Thanks
Great tips! I love getting a bubble bath and reading a good book.
I’ve done all of these this week (apart from the animals) and can wholeheartedly agree they work, especially the reading. Great catchy post. xx
Reading always makes me feel better, I think it’s the fact I can get lost in a different world for a short space of time.
I agree with these all! Snuggles with my kitten (& my dragon who just happens to be called Dobby too!) and a nice hot bath (with wine!) are my favourite way to cheer up. This post made me smile though 🙂 x
I love all of your ideas. I usually cheer myself up by shopping 🙂
Great ideas, I may pop off and try a few right now..
That picture of your dog is ace, lol. I play with my kids to cheer myself up. They are bound to have me rolling in laughter.
Brilliant ideas. My favourite thing to do is have a nice long bath with scented candles, a glass of wine and a good book. I can spend hours in there!
