  2. It has been a long time since I went shopping for a wedding dress. Do your research ahead of time and figure out a good budget. If you find a dress that is over your budget, make sure you have other areas that you can cut back on and still enjoy your big day. Because I was quite petite, nothing in the dress shop fit me off the rack. My mom found a seamstress to make my wedding dress. It ended up being less expensive than buying a dress and having it altered.

  4. I don’t think i will ever get married but I think I would find choosing a wedding dress the worst, i am so self critical and hate how I look in anything let along a wedding dress haha

  5. I got so lucky when I married my husband. My coworker had just gotten divorced after only a few months and she sold me the dress, hoop & shoes for $125 it was a $1700 dress! Then later after the wedding, we were moving and he accidentally took the wrong bag to Goodwill and we didn’t realize it until 8 months later. He’s still paying for that one…28 years later!

  6. I remember picking out my wedding dress. It was such an amazing experience. All of the tips you shared are spot on. It is very true that sometimes when you try a dress on, you just feel like it is “the one” you want. I remember feeling so special in mine and two years on I still love it.

    1. It really isn’t I think many people get overwhelmed as well both by the choice and voices from others which never helps.

  10. I never did get to wear a dress. We got married in my mother in laws living room and we didn’t bother to dress up fancy!

  12. Here is the us, the sizes are weird and dresses almost always need to be altered, so giving yourself time is huge!

    1. It seems to be something with wedding dresses, like none of it is actually true to normal sizes! So odd.

  13. For me, the budget should determine the rest. I watched my niece try on a perfect dress that was $800 over her budget. It should have never been shown to her.

  15. Yes, great to keep in mind. I had a basic dress the first time since we just got married in a court house. Then we renewed our vows at 10 years and I got an actual dress, but I set a budget. I can’t fathom paying a ton for something I wear once.

    1. No I can’t understand that either – I mean I get, getting something you love but spending a fortune is crazy.
