5 Things To Think About When Purchasing Your Wedding Dress
Your wedding is a big thing, there is so much to plan for the big day.
However, perhaps for some people, the most exciting part is getting to chose their wedding dress.
One thing to remember about your journey to the perfect dress is it will be different from everyone else’s. So never think about comparing how you find and feel about this task to stories you have heard from friends and family.
Set a Budget.
One of the first things you are going to want to do is set a budget.
This means no matter if you are shopping instore or heading to a wedding gowns online store you can select to only see items which you could realistically choose to be yours.
Give Yourself Time.
It is unlikely the first dress you try on will be the one.
Plus most dresses will need to be altered in some way to make sure they fit you best.
So don’t leave your dress shopping until late. Start early, give yourself time to say no and have it made to fit you perfectly.
Think About Who and What You Take.
So you’re heading off for a day of dress shopping.
Don’t think about taking everyone with you, small and cosy is the way to go, too many voices can really make things hard.
When it comes with what to bring with you, then think about underwear choices, you might want to pack a few different types, as well as shoes.
If you haven’t already found the perfect pair of shoes, then just pack some in a similar height.
Shop For Your Size.
Ok here me out here. So many people decide to shop smaller and diet in the run-up to their wedding.
However, it is much easier to make a gown smaller than bigger!
Plus let’s be honest no matter your shape and size, your partner is marrying you for you. They love you just as you are.
What’s more these days there is a whole host of gorgeous plus size wedding dresses on the market!
Plus it is worth noting that bridle sizing can be different to your highstreet size. Don’t worry about it!
Being Spoilt For Choice is Real.
Magazines, Pinterest boards, Google and shops!
It can be so very easy to become overwhelmed by the choice that is out there.
Limiting yourself to looking in just a few places, can really help, make things just a bit easier on yourself.
Of course, these are just a few tips to help you find the perfect dress.
It is always worth remembering you might not cry and that’s OK! Never forget to read the fine print and sometimes it is worth calling ahead to make an appointment if you are visiting a store.

It has been a long time since I went shopping for a wedding dress. Do your research ahead of time and figure out a good budget. If you find a dress that is over your budget, make sure you have other areas that you can cut back on and still enjoy your big day. Because I was quite petite, nothing in the dress shop fit me off the rack. My mom found a seamstress to make my wedding dress. It ended up being less expensive than buying a dress and having it altered.

I don’t think i will ever get married but I think I would find choosing a wedding dress the worst, i am so self critical and hate how I look in anything let along a wedding dress haha

I got so lucky when I married my husband. My coworker had just gotten divorced after only a few months and she sold me the dress, hoop & shoes for $125 it was a $1700 dress! Then later after the wedding, we were moving and he accidentally took the wrong bag to Goodwill and we didn’t realize it until 8 months later. He’s still paying for that one…28 years later!

I remember picking out my wedding dress. It was such an amazing experience. All of the tips you shared are spot on. It is very true that sometimes when you try a dress on, you just feel like it is “the one” you want. I remember feeling so special in mine and two years on I still love it.

It really isn’t I think many people get overwhelmed as well both by the choice and voices from others which never helps.
Great advice, thank you! I think my top tip would be to start early, because having enough time spare to be able to take a break and let the choices swish around in your mind for a while really helps.

I never did get to wear a dress. We got married in my mother in laws living room and we didn’t bother to dress up fancy!

Here is the us, the sizes are weird and dresses almost always need to be altered, so giving yourself time is huge!

Yes, great to keep in mind. I had a basic dress the first time since we just got married in a court house. Then we renewed our vows at 10 years and I got an actual dress, but I set a budget. I can’t fathom paying a ton for something I wear once.
