5 Places to Eat Near Lichfield
AD
Do you fancy a meal out, or just like popping into a cafe for a coffee and cake? Then I have some picks from near Lichfield, Staffordshire which might be perfect for you to try out.
This list includes 5 places to eat near Lichfield, including cafes and restaurants to fit any budget.
Laughing Duck Canalside Cafe – Fradley Junction
Personally, I find it quite relaxing to be down by the canal. So this is a location we sometimes head off to on an afternoon and stop in for a cup of tea, a fish finger sandwich and perhaps a piece of cake.
The Laughing Duck Cafe is set by the canal and can be reached by both foot if you fancy a canal-side walk, or they have a car park to the side. They are open all year round, 9:30 – 4 offering outdoor dining.
They try their best to cater to a range of dietary requirements. For summer you will find gluten-free cones and vegan ice cream options, to name just a few additions.
What’s more, this is a dog-friendly location. So if you want to take your dog with you or love to dog spot, this is the perfect place.
Red Carpet Cinema & Cafe Bar – Barton Marina
The Red Carpet is located at Barton Marina, which is a hub of small shops and a farm shop. While once a month during the summer one of the fields is transformed into an artisan market.
The Red Carpet itself is a self-contained restaurant and cinema. The cinema features two screens with a small relaxed seating area, while the restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating areas.
When it comes to food they offer a range of brunches, lunches, afternoon tea and dinner between the times of 10am – 8:30pm. You can even book to enjoy a film and a meal for a special rate.
Upstairs by Tom Shepherd – Lichfield
Did you know that Lichfield has a Michelin-starred restaurant? Well, it does in the form of Upstairs by Tom Shepherd and that isn’t the end of what makes this restaurant special.
Offering a 7-course tasting menu and a 4-course lunch menu. Upstairs is named by the fact is sits above Tom’s father’s jewellery shop in the heart of Lichfield.
If you would like a really special dining experience it is worth booking the chef’s table (for up to four people). Where you will oversee the creation of each dish and get an insight into what went into the making of it.
Pre-booking Upstairs is a must.
Booking Tips for Restaurants
While there are many cafes and restaurants you can just turn up and get a seat at, this isn’t always the case, especially with places like Upstairs. As such, make sure you do your research before heading to any location.
Remembering if you are ever stuck on places to go for a meal or want a specific style of food such as a champagne afternoon tea, there are websites out there to help.
Toluca Mexican Bar & Grill – Lichfield
Toluca is a restaurant that has gone from strength to strength, managing to thrive during one of the hardest times for such businesses, by quickly changing to offering home delivery.
Back in March, they had a complete rebrand of their name, and are expanding into other nearby locations.
Toluca offers a range of Tex-Mex dishes and includes options for vegans. If this is a style of menu you like, then it is well worth checking out this restaurant.
The Bank Cafe – Alrewas
If you are visiting The National Memorial Arboretum and fancy checking out a different place to stop for a drink and a bite to eat, then how about The Bank Cafe.
Located in the village of Alrewas, The Bank Cafe opened in 2018, in a building that was once upon a time a bank. They offer up a menu of drinks and food, which are all locally sourced and open Tuesday – Sunday 10am – 3pm.
Alongside their normal opening hours, they sometimes offer special events, featuring live music and cocktails on a Friday evening.
So there you have 5 places to eat near Lichfield, which I think you might enjoy.

The Toluca Mexican Bar & Grill sounds right up my street
Big recommendation for the Chadwick Arms at Hill Ridware, it’s always on our visit list for excellent Chinese and well kept ale.
I will absolutely be putting Toluca on the request list for next time we visit!
I will have to check out the Chadwick Arms thank you for the recommendation!
I live about an hour away from Lichfield and know nothing about the town. But I like city breaks, so I may go and take a look around.
It’s an interesting city with a lot of history – there is a great tour guide so I’ve heard that goes around the city telling people about it I think he goes by “Jono’s Tourism” I’ve heard good things even from people who even live in the city.
Thank you, very useful if I ever decide to visit 🙂 xxx
it looks lovely, i live near here so i may check some of these places out in the upcoming months
I hope you enjoy them if you do manage to get to try some of them out!
Never been to Lichfield but this blog makes me want to go!
There is a lot to see and do in the area, as well as some fantastic places to eat.
This area is quite near my sister and I really need to go visit her soon. To be honest, all of those places look great to eat at, but my preference is likely to be the Laughing Duck Canalside Cafe.
I hope you get to see your sister soon and if you visit Lichfield, I hope you have a lovely time!
The Laughing Duck Canalside Cafe sounds perfect, I would find it relaxing to eat near the canal too.
That seems to be a lot of people’s choices, it is such a lovely relaxing place.
Thanks for this – for us Staffordshire has been a place to drive through to get elsewhere but it certainly seems a good place to stop awhile.
There is some lovely things to do and see here for everyone!
I have never visited Lichfield, but I like the sound of Upstairs by Tom Shepherd
It is one place I would love to visit at least once to try out – so hard to get into though really booked up.
They all sound great with a wide choice to satisfy any occasion
There are some lovely places to eat – it was hard to choose just 5 I have to admit.
They sound great and really Lichfield is not too far away for a visit
It’s always nice to have restaurants by water, especially when they offer al fresco dining. In London we’re quite lucky to have a canal and a river and along both of them you can also find some really restaurants there. Sadly a lot of them are very very pricey and maybe not as affordable as the Laughing Duck Canalside Cafe
There is some lovely places to go to eat around here – it was hard to pick 5 to include, The Laughing Duck is definitely a favourite for a nice day!
