1. Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum
Literature and history come together at the Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum in Lichfield. Dedicated to the life and legacy of the famed writer who is perhaps most well known for his “Dictionary of the English Language”. This Grade I listed building is where he spent the first 27 years of his life and now pays respect to his life and times. Explore Johnson’s contributions to English literature within the collections and events held here.

2. Potteries Museum & Art Gallery
Located in Hanley, the Potteries Museum & Art Gallery is a treasure trove of art, history, ceramics and more. From Staffordshire pottery to local history exhibits depicting domestic and working lives, you can also find out more about the Staffordshire Hoard, to name just a few things to do within this museum and gallery. Plus from 1 March – 1 June they have the touring The Toys Strike Back Exhibition on display.

3. World of Wedgwood
Step into the world of world-renowned ceramics at the World of Wedgwood in Barlaston. Offering everything from factory tours to finding out more about this well-known ceramic brand within the V&A Wedgwood Collection. For those who want more of a hands-on experience, they also offer craft workshops where you can try out a potter wheel for yourself. While you can round the day off with an afternoon tea, or meal within their eateries.

4. Staffordshire Regiment Museum (at Whittington Barracks)
For military history enthusiasts, The Staffordshire Regiment Museum located at Whittington Barracks near Lichfield is a must-visit. This museum offers a detailed look at the 300-year history of the regiment, which since 2007 includes the new Mercian Regiment. Featuring an extensive collection of memorabilia, uniforms, and interactive displays including a a full-size replica World War 1 trench which helps highlight the bravery and heritage of the soldiers.

5. Erasmus Darwin House
Showcasing the life and interests of Erasmus Darwin (Grandfather to Charles), this independent museum includes an audio guide, which will guide you through this home and garden. Inside you will be able to look through personal journals, learn about the plants that Erasmus Darwin used to treat his patients (often free of charge) and find out about his inventions through interactive exhibits, replica costumes and historical objects

never thought there was all this to do in Staffordshire ‘ time to see more
Lake district doing walks and enjoying the scenery
Kelham Island in Sheffield is really interesting for industrial heritage and has some fantastic places to eat too
we love ashridge forest and nice walk followed by a picnic with the children
Kenilworth Castle in Warwickshire is a great place to spend a few hours.
Cotehele … a National Trust property in beautiful grounds along the River Tamar, we often do a 4 mile loop walk. We love it!
Tatton Park, it’s beautiful grounds are lovely to walk round on family walks.
Attingham Park in Shropshire, some really great walks, great for the families
Another vote here for the beautiful Pembroke castle.From our house on the hill we overlooked it. I cannot describe how its presence and atmosphere. It is a peaceful place to see and to visit
Caerphilly castle – the biggest castle in Wales
In Boston, in Lincolnshire, we have the Guildhall Museum which was where the Pilgrim Fathers were incarcerated before they went across to America. The favourite part for the children is going in the cells!
We have a lovely village local to us called Scorton. It’s a beautiful place to visit with the best tearooms and there’s such an abundance of paths to walk on including one to the top of Nicky Nook (such a great name!)
For local attraction, Wollaton Park Nottingham, is brilliant, The Park is free, and the Museum is free too, it’s so beautiful and you can easily spend the day there 🙂
Brockholes Nature reserve, love being out in the outdoors with all the wildlife
Some really good suggestions here – it would be good to know the cost of admissions though. I would love to do the Wedgewood one, esp if I got to do some pottery.
I love The Deep in Hull. It’s an interesting aquarium in a building like no other. I love it so much I got married there!
I have visited four out of the five, just need to go to the Samuel Johnson museum to complete the set. I would recommend Peak Wildlife park, they have polar bears!
I love Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster! An amazing variety of animals and a lovely clean park with a cafe where food is actually affordable(!). Plus it’s in Yorkshire which is my favourite place in the UK along with Cornwall 😍
Lichfield really has some great spots , the cathedral is also very special

The World of Wedgwood would be so interesting as I love their wares. I’ve been to the Worcester factory, but not Wedgwood.
Doing walks in the lake District and seeing the beautiful scenery
I love Cliffe Castle in Keighley. Big open space, a museum and a cafe to end the visit with
Zipworld in Hirwaun, it’s great for thrill seekers and fun for all the family, and because it’s local, we get a discount!
The Erasmus Darwin house, as I am fascinated by Charles Darwin & love his Origin of Species!

I live in beautiful Pembrokeshire so it is hard to pick one attraction, but I live near the magnificent Pembroke Castle so that would be my top choice as it is such an iconic piee of history
I love Skipton, woods, lots of statues made out of twigs a stream and the changing colours with the seasons are beautiful

Castle Hill in West Yorkshire – such a historic building and a great view all around!
