4 Nutritious and Delicious Foods to Boost Your Immune System
Diets and food trends are all the rage, but sticking to a diet based on whole foods is still your best bet. Whole foods can keep you healthy and strengthen your immune system to prevent sickness. Add the following four foods to your grocery list for a delicious and nutritious boost to your immune system.

Tuna and Salmon for Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Both tuna and salmon provide a healthy dose of omega-3 fatty acids. Since the human body can’t make these fats from scratch as it can with other fats, it’s essential that your diet includes foods that provide omega-3 fatty acids. These fats strengthen white blood cells, the disease-fighting agents of the body.
You can get omega-3 fatty acids from fish such as anchovies, herring, and sardines as well as from nuts and seeds. Try to avoid farm-raised fish when selecting the types of fish to add to your diet.
Garlic to Fight Bacteria
Don’t shy away from garlic; its benefits far outweigh the risk of bad breath. In fact, garlic is the perfect bacteria-fighting agent you need to make sure that your body stays healthy.
Don’t wait until you’re sick to start eating garlic. Begin today by adding it to your roasted vegetables at dinner, blending it with homemade salad dressings for lunch, and simmering it in savoury porridge or oatmeal in the morning. If you are ambitious enough, you can chew on fine slivers of raw cloves.
Yoghurt for Probiotics
If you haven’t yet caught on to the probiotic rage, start today with yoghurt. Not only is yoghurt delicious, but it also gives you a healthy dose of probiotics perfect for maintaining a healthy digestive system.
Probiotics essentially restore a proper balance of healthy bacteria versus harmful bacteria to help your body ward off illnesses and diseases. You can top off your yoghurt with fresh berries to give your system its daily antioxidants to get two immune booster wins in one meal.
Honey to Fight Infections
Honey serves several different purposes. Not only can it boost your immune system by helping you fight infections through its antiseptic and antibacterial properties, but it can also provide relief from the common cold. You can easily add honey to your diet as a natural sweetener, or you can opt for using a teaspoon of honey for direct relief from coughing or a sore throat.
Sometimes, no matter how many immune-boosting foods you bring into your diet, you can still end up sick. But do you know the difference between dealing with a common cold and battling seasonal allergies? Learn how to tell the difference between a cold and allergies so that you can apply the correct remedy and care to restore your immune system to its healthy state.
Maintaining a focus on whole foods that provide vital nutrients and vitamins is your immune system’s best bet to stay healthy and fend off illness. Don’t forget to pick up some fish, garlic, yoghurt, and honey the next time you go shopping.

So nice to see Salmon on the list because it’s one of my absolute favorites especially since there are so many recipes that you can enjoy with salmon as the main ingredient and simply grilling it will do as well.
We use a lot of honey – in cooking, baking, even grilling! It just has so many health benefits that we’d rather spend on good quality honey than to buy pills to cure an illness.
My immune system is pretty much non-existent so these suggestions are amazing. I need all the help that I can get!
Salmon and garlic are always a staple in my house. Tuna, not so much, because my husband and sons say it is “too filling.” My husband loves honey and ginger tea. It calms a queasy tummy and clears his sinuses like magic.
I love all of these foods and it’s nice to know I am eating healthy for my family. Now I just have to get my kids eating salmon!
Awesome tips! Good thing I love all these!! I love trying new recipes with these foods!
Since I am a vegetarian, I don’t do the salon, but I do eat lots of the others on the list, so it’s great to know that I am giving my immune system a boost every time I put them on my plate.
Definitely lacking on the salmon and tuna in my diet. But, I think I might be willing to stretch my tastes a bit and start trying them a bit more.
With the exception of fish, because my kids haven’t acquired a taste for it, I load them full of everything else especially the garlic and honey
I’m lacking pretty much all of these in my diet. I will have to add them in now that I know there are some great benefits!
Love my Omega-3. I eat it and take it almost every day. I’m a new person b/c of it. Garlic, uh? I’ll have to read up on that one.
That is so great! The best medicine for us is good food. Thank you for sharing these.
If I can find recipes that combine all 4, I’ll be one step ahead! I love salmon, tuna, garlic and honey.
I love both tuna and salmon! I’m always up for trying different recipes for both. Combine with garlic, and we have a winner!
