25 Things to Do on a Rainy Summer Day (UK Edition)
Rainy summer days are basically part of the British experience at this point, if you don’t spend one minute sunbathing in 30 degrees and the next wondering where your winter blanket went, was it ever even summer?
However, a rainy day doesn’t have to stop you from having some summer fun; in fact, sometimes it’s actually the perfect excuse to slow down, stay cosy, and enjoy those quieter little moments that sunny days don’t always allow for.
So if the weather has let you down a bit, here are some comforting, low-pressure ideas for making the most of a rainy summer day.
Cosy Indoor Comforts

1. Make a hot drink and actually sit down to enjoy it
No multitasking, just tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and a quiet moment all for you.
2. Rewatch a comfort film or TV series
Rainy weather somehow makes familiar shows feel even cosier. I’ve just finished rewatching Warehouse 13 and had definitely forgotten how much I enjoyed it.
3. Put fresh bedding on the bed
A surprisingly effective mood boost for gloomy afternoons, after all, who doesn’t love fresh bedding at the end of the day?
4. Light a candle even though it’s summer
Honestly, cosy evenings don’t have to stop just because it’s summer.
5. Listen to rain sounds without pretending you’re being productive
You’re allowed to simply exist for a bit, relax in the moment, and spend some time just being.
6. Open a window slightly and listen to the rain outside
Peak cosy British atmosphere, bonus points for a cup of tea and a biscuit (or your favourite equivalent).
7. Wear your comfiest clothes
This is not the day for jeans, this is all about cosy, at-home vibes, just stick on your day PJs! (Just me that has those?)
8. Put together a picky bits lunch
There is something about having your favourite picky bits on plates for dinner that somehow feels more exciting on rainy days.
9. Bake something simple
Even if it’s just out of a packet, it all counts, and you get a delicious treat at the end!
10. Read a few chapters of something comforting
Rainy afternoons were basically designed for reading, and there are some amazing reads out there just waiting to be discovered.
Gentle Low-Energy Activities

11. Do some colouring or a simple craft
Something calming that doesn’t require too much brainpower, I do love a good crystal art myself.
12. Listen to an audiobook or podcast
Perfect for days when your energy levels are somewhere under the floorboards, you can just close your eyes and drift off to another land.
13. Declutter one tiny area
A drawer counts, a shelf counts, one pile absolutely counts, and you never know what you might find hidden away.
14. Journal your thoughts for a few minutes
Even messy thoughts on paper can help clear your head.
15. Sort through old photos
Equal parts wholesome and emotionally dangerous.
16. Make a playlist for rainy days
The vibe matters. What can uplift your mood when the weather is at its worst?
17. Do a gentle skincare routine
Tiny acts of care still count as productive.
18. Spend some time offline
The world can wait for half an hour, take a step away and just do something you love.
19. Watch YouTube videos about hobbies you’ll probably never start
A classic rainy day activity.
20. Let yourself nap if you need one
Rainy weather naps hit differently.
Lean Into the Rainy Day Vibes

21. Sit somewhere cosy and watch the rain for a while
Sometimes doing “nothing” is actually quite nice.
22. Take photos of rainy skies or puddles
Rainy days can still feel strangely beautiful, especially when you spend some time looking at the sky.
23. Go for a short rainy walk if you enjoy that sort of thing
There’s something oddly peaceful about being outside while it rains lightly, just make sure you are wrapped up from the rain.
24. Order takeaway without feeling guilty about it
Not every meal needs effort; sometimes you just need to order your favourite dish.
25. Remind yourself that summer doesn’t have to look perfect
Rainy days are part of the season, too; you can make the most of the day without it having to be full of sun.
A Gentle Reminder
Not every summer day is going to be sunshine and blue skies, especially in the UK. Slower days, rainy afternoons, and cosy evenings still have their own kind of charm.
Sometimes the best memories aren’t the big adventures, sometimes they’re just warm drinks, rain against the window, and giving yourself permission to slow down for a while.
And honestly? That counts too.
How do you like to spend a rainy summer’s day at home?

I love a good declutter on a rainy day.
Now that is a useful thing to do on a rainy day.
I’m hoping i don’t have to refer to your list too often. The garden and the plants may have a different opinion. 🙂
Fingers crossed – although I don’t want another heatwave quite like last week either.
Some great ideas here for me to try out! Although probably not for now because of the heatwave but I will try them out on a rainy day for sure.
I know right! My timing is not the best, posting this just before a heatwave.
