The Fine Bedding Company Boutique Silk Review

It is that time of year when people are thinking about perhaps putting away their winter duvet and getting out something a bit lighter. While you should replace your pillows every 1 to 2 years.
If you are one of those people wondering if now is the right time to replace your duvet and pillows let me introduce you to The Fine Bedding Company.
The Fine Bedding Company
Having a history of over 100 years, The Fine Bedding Company began life as a small family business supplying cruise liners and ships. Today they are a fourth generation business based in the UK. They now supply both luxury hotels and the public. With names such as; International Continental- O2 London, St Michael’s Manor and Fontevraud L’Hotel listed under their clientele.
When it comes to the products themselves, they are made in a facility in Estonia. This state of the art factory is purpose built and gives the company complete control over their products.
What’s more, they have worked hard to create bedding that is different. For instance, they were first to produce a home washable duvet that fits in a home washing machine (7kg). Allowing you to home wash your duvet at up to 60°C up to 20 times, without compromising the structure.
The bedding itself is also made from a range of innovative fibres such as Smartfil and Smartdown.
The Fine Bedding Company Boutique Silk Range
Now before I go on any further with this review I should probably mention something. The Fine Bedding Company isn’t new to me, we actually already have one of their duvets, the “Breathe Duvet” on our bed alongside a pair of their pillows.
As such, I knew a little about the company and knew that I would likely be impressed with the items I received. So I was really excited to try the Boutique Silk range and see what I thought.
Boutique Silk Duvet
The Boutique Silk duvet is available in three different warmth options; summer (4.5 tog) spring/autumn (10.5 tog) and winter (13.5 tog). I will be 100% honest and say we never use anything more than a 10.5 tog, both Ash and I run warm. As such for us, it made sense to go for a 4.5 tog.
It also comes in a choice of 4 sizes; single, double, king and super king.
If you are wondering why the name Boutique Silk, well the filling is made from 90% Smartfil microfibre and 10% pure silk. While the outer cover is made from sustainably sourced cotton. While this is of course a duvet that can be put in the washing machine on a 60 wash.
My Thoughts on the Boutique Silk Duvet
My first impression of the duvet was how light it was. Of course, compared to a 10.5 tog a 4.5 is going to be lighter. However, especially when under it, it really gives a light covering that is perfect for warmer months.
The duvet itself is incredibly soft to the touch and feels quite fluffy. I would assume this is because of the Smartfil filling, as personally, I would expect a duvet with a higher content of silk than this to be flatter. However, for me, this works as I like the more fluffy feel.
I think over the summer this is going to make for a great duvet. Offering something light to snuggle under.
The Boutique Silk Duvet costs between £58 and £143.50.
Boutique Silk Pillows
Much like the duvet, the pillow contains a mix of 90% Smartfil and 10% silk, covered in a sustainably sourced cotton cover. Once again they can be machine washed, this time at 40 degrees and of course tumble dried.
The pillows themselves are medium / firm and wonderfully plump.
My Thoughts on the Boutique Silk Pillows
These pillows are wonderfully filled and you just sink into them. However, I’m used to using a firmer pillow, so they are a little softer than I would normally go for. That said, I am sure I could get used to it as they do support the head and neck.
While you do sink into them, I don’t feel like they are making me warm. This could be down to the Smartfil as this does allow for airflow.
For the price of the pillows £33 each, I feel like these offer good value for money.
Overall Thoughts
As someone who has been using The Fine Bedding Company for a while now, I knew I already liked their products. Trying out this set from a different range, has given me the chance to see that other options from their range are well worth trying as well.
While I obviously cannot speak about the longevity of these products, I have found the duvet and pillows we had been using lasted well, with the ability to wash and dry them at home only helping to add to that.
As such if you are looking to buy a new pillow or duvet I would definitely suggest checking out The Fine Bedding Company.

I don’t think the duvet would be any good for me because I like a lot of weight on me when I sleep, the pillows sound great though, I need soft pillows as I have arthritis in my jaw
They do heavier togs of duvet, it was just my personal choice as I do overheat a lot to get a low tog from them.

You could look into some silk pillowcases perhaps I’ve heard that is meant to be so kind to skin.

They are a great brand and well worth trying if you need new bedding.
Many sleeping issues can be easily solved with good quality bedding. It can be an investment.

Great review but after reading about weighted blankets for Fibromyalgia sufferers I think there must be another dimension to the topic of bedding.
I have a weighted blanket and I’ve very torn on it. On one side it helps ease my anxiety a bit, however on the other, it sets off my anxiety as I have found myself trapped under it before when my fatigue got so bad. Plus when my pain levels are high it aggravates pain levels. So these days I can only put it on my legs on good days which doesn’t give much help. I have heard they work well for others.
I’m loving the sound of the silk pillows as I have a really sensitive scalp after losing my hair

If you’ve never tried it then you just have to give silk a try. Probably the cheapest way is to buy a couple of pillowcases; just see how they feel on your face as opposed to your usual ones!
These have some silk inside so you have a pillowcase on the outside of your choice (I’m sure many will choose silk).
Their duvets look very nice and machine washable at 60°C is a real bonus

A home washable duvet is a serious breakthrough and I really didn’t know that pillows should be replaced every two years .
It is great isn’t it – makes all the difference to having to lug it down to a laundrette!
I would be very interested to hear what you think after a while. I seem to get inundated with demands for reviews on stuff as we buy it from the likes of Amazon or Ebay but what really counts is how things cope with normal life over time; would it not be much better to ask for reviews after 1 or 2 years?
That’s why I mentioned the fact we have The Fine Bedding Company on the bed already, although it isn’t the Boutique Silk it’s the Breathe Duvet and I’m not 100% sure on the pillows, I believe we put the duvet on after losing Sal so would have had it on coming on around 3 when I switched over. It’s still in great condition I’ve been debating if I put it in the wash again and keep it for autumn or give it to a dog charity.
I also love this company and their products!

I really struggle to find comfortable pillows, I like to be quite high up and supported, so will have to have a look at these.
They are very cosy and for the price as well I think they are great value for money.
I am so fussy about bedding, mega sensitive, I am like the story of The Princess and the Pea, one little tag or seam and it irritates me, my fibromyalgia makes me hyper sensitive to things but these sound wonderful!

I have a duvet from the Fine Bedding Company and it’s such good quality. I have a cotton one and I have used it all winter as my couch cover up. I love that it is so easy to clean as well, it dries in just a few hours.
Is that one of the coverless duvet ones? I won one and my Dad has it right now and he’s not too good after an operation and has been using it on the sofa for naps and loves it.
What a lovely company, and great to see that it is local as well. It is great that they offer 3 different options for the duvet, I would pick the spring/autumn size as well as I could use it all year round
I love that they offer the different tog options as everyone feels the cold / heat differently so means you can buy the one that suits you.
I have used Fine Bedding in the past and do love the items I have, I have not tried their Silk Range yet and do need to start looking at lighter bedding

I love the use of silk in bedding. I have silk pillowcases which feel lovely and soft on the skin and are meant to stop your face becoming crumpled and creased as yous slip. Now wondering if I should go the whole hog and get some silk sheets too!
Silk pillowcases are meant to be wonderful for your skin and hair, help keep down the frizz I believe it is! It was suggested I get silk sheets by my OT as it would be easier to get on and off the bed as I would sort of glide, I really must try it.
An interesting review. I have heard so much about this brand that it is good to see an honest review. I would love to try a duvet from this range, however, I too like a flatter firm pillow. So maybe leave that one.
They are one of those brands aren’t they that are talked about a lot but also a bit of an enigma. I’ve been really impressed with their duvets, I do use their pillows as my second pillow, then my top one is a memory foam one and that works well.
I’m very much like you, I like my pillow firm. Maybe after some customer feedback they can create a firmer one as I would like a warmer pillow
They do a lot of different pillows, so I would expect some to be firmer than others.
