Salt of the Earth: Hand Soap and Deodorant Review
PR Sample – I was sent a hand soap and deodorant from Salt of the Earth for consideration on my blog.
I think many of us are trying to find better alternatives for ourselves and the environment when it comes to beauty and body care.
Salt of the Earth is a brand I originally came across many years ago, with its crystal deodorant stick. However, they have expanded their range a lot since those days.
Who is Salt of the Earth?
Created in 2003, they were adopted by a mother and son team; Thomas and Sally in 2005.
The brand began with its original crystal deodorant but has since expanded to include sprays, roll-ons and travel sprays.
They look to make only environmentally friendly, natural products across their ranges, with all products being cruelty-free and vegan. Unsurprisingly they are a leading brand in natural deodorant and are stocked in retailers such as; Ocado, Boots, and Holland & Barrett.
I was kindly sent two items from their range to try.
Orange & Neroli Natural Deodorant Balm
Offering a new and improved formula this deodorant is both plastic and aluminium free.
This deodorant has been naturally fragranced with botanical extracts and is approved by both the Vegan and Vegetarian Societies. While it is presented in a plastic-free pot and compared to the old glass packaging has 70% reduced packaging.
What’s more, it includes skin-loving ingredients such as shea butter and coconut oil.
Personally, I struggle with natural deodorants as a lot of them use something which my skin doesn’t like, I assume it’s Sodium Bicarbonate, which is something some people struggle with. Thankfully it doesn’t feature on the ingredient list of this balm so I was interested to try it.
I do have issues with sweat having previously been diagnosed with Hyperhidrosis. So I know that pretty much any deodorant won’t stop that, however, I do look for which keeps me feeling fresher at least.
By changing to a natural deodorant you are going to go through a transition period of around 30 days, during which you can smell worse. So if you are switching, do stick to it throughout this time.
This particular deodorant has a soft scent, with a little going a long way when it comes to usage. If you are looking to change to a natural deodorant I would definitely suggest trying out the range from Salt of the Earth, as even if a balm isn’t for you, they have a wide range of types to choose from.

Melon & Cucumber Foaming Hand Wash
Next up is a product I didn’t realise Salt of the Earth sold and that is a foaming handwash. Once again this item is vegan and cruelty-free. It offers the ability to refill it with a 1:1 concentrate and is offered in 5 fragrances currently.
Personally, I am a fan of foaming hand wash, I feel like they clean the hands better and as such, I was interested in trying this offering.
The hand wash is simple to use, pumping easily from the bottle and offers a light fresh fragrance. The foam is rich offering a good hand cleanse that then washes away quickly.
Personally, I really like this handwash and would be interested in trying the other fragrances. I feel for the price of £5.99 it is good value when put against other foaming handwashes. While the refill comes in at £21.99 for 500ml which makes 1ltr of soap.
Overall Thoughts
It is obvious that Salt of the Earth has put a lot of thought into its items. From how they work, to the packaging and keeping them in line with their ethos.
The fact that they offer a range of natural deodorants will hopefully help people who are wanting to step over into that market, as it allows them to try different kinds.
While the soaps offer a great addition to any sink.

Lavender & Vanilla Foaming Hand Wash is lovely! It’s really sedating and pure.
I like the look of the deodorant sticks and balms as they look quite moisturising. I especially like the look of the scent melon and cucumber.

I’v never used these products before and they all sound lovely. I think I’d most like to try the orange and neroli deodorant, partly because I do want to start going natural with my deodorant and partly because I think that the orange together with neroli would be a lovely smelling scent.

I have been considering trying solid deodorants and it’s a bonus to hear this only has a soft scent as I usually stick to unscented products.
I have been using non chemical solid deodrants since having breast cancer.They work better and im happy knowing im not risking my health and as a bonus, i smell nice, one of my favourite fragrances. I havent tried this brand but i cant wait to do so

I really like the foaming soap just because I have never liked bar soap and so I am happy to know there is an alternative way to be eco friendly when it comes down to hand washing.
