Sally Walks
Before I got ill with fibro I would spend hours walking Sally, when I first had her we lived on the edge of Gentleshaw Common and it was over there Sally learned to have fun, she learned to run and jump and play hide and seek. It was the place she really came out of her shell and I adored those hours I got to spend with her there.
After we moved to Lichfield our walks changed a little, but one of her favourite ones that has never changed across the years has to be over Beacon Park, she loves sniffing out who has recently been about and the small stream that runs through it is the perfect place to take a dip on a warm summers day.
Ahh yes the perfect place for a little dog to take a dip.
As often as possible we like to take Sally away on holiday with us and we have had such fun exploring places across the country (one of our favourite spots just so happens to be Cornwall – as we get to some of the family).
So anyway back to our favourite local walk around Beacon Park, any dog owner knows that walks are one of the most important things for any dog and perhaps now more than ever due to the rise in dog obesity.
But how do you know if your dog is getting enough exercise, well there is no sure fire way, but there is a new app that might just be able to give you a bit of insight into how much exercise both you and your dog are getting on your daily walks!
The Walkies app is available free of charge from the apple store and all you need to do is download it on your phone, put in a bit of information about yourself and your dog/s then let it know when you are about to take a walk.
Once your home the app will give you the low down on what happened while you were walking, from the time taken, to the calories burned by you and your pooch! You can even see a map of where you walked so long as the GPS is enabled on your phone.
The app keeps information on your walks so you are able to look back on the data collected and see averages of how your walks go! You can even add more than one dog to the app and choose who you are walking on each outing.
It really is so simple to work and if you fancy seeing how it is already helping dogs, just check out the Fit Fred Blog and see how he is doing on his journey from overweight golden retriever to fit and fabulous!
What is your favourite walk?
