We know the kids haven’t broken up for the summer holidays yet, but it doesn’t hurt to plan in advance, especially if you want to go away within a half term week.

With this in mind, we’ve gathered a list of places that could be a backdrop to your family days out in Wales, if you decide to take an October holidays UK staycation.

So, if you’re ready, let’s take a look at just some of the places you could be exploring this autumn in the land of the red dragon – Wales.

Colby Woodland Garden – SA67 8PP

Colby Woodland Garden is a beautiful place to explore with children of any age. There is so much to enjoy, including the Woodland Garden, a four-acre meadow with indigenous wild flowers, a walled garden, a tea room, a pathway leading to the coast, and so much more on the Colby estate.

Powis Castle and Garden – SY21 8RF

Originally built in the 13^th century as a medieval fortress, Powis Castle and Gardens now welcomes visitors to explore its grounds and discover its history. Whilst visiting, you’ll discover Powis’ Grade I listed garden steeped in history, South Asian artefacts that date from around 1600 to the 1830s within the Clive Museum, and not forgetting the castle itself. What will you uncover within its walls?

Remember to check opening times before your visit, as towards the end of the year, Powis Castle and Garden’s opening times can vary.

Dolaucothi – SA19 8US

How about exploring the UK’s only known Roman Gold Mine? With numerous mines to explore at Dolaucothi, including the gold mines, Roman mines, Mitchell Mines, Mine Yard, as well as the gold panning area and the Long Adit, there’s something for everyone to do and see here.

Being the only one of its kind in the UK, this activity will require you to book in advance to avoid disappointment.

Tredegar House – NP10 8YW

With an impressive mansion house and 90 acres of garden and parkland to roam around and explore at Tredegar House, it will be easy to discover something new here whilst creating memories the children can tell their friends all about on their return to school after half term.

Chirk Castle – LL14 5AF

With the construction of Chirk Castle beginning around 1295, you’ll be sure to unearth some history when wandering the grounds made up of over 480 acres, as well as the castle itself.

Situated within a part of the grounds here, you’ll discover an award-winning garden, which features manicured lawns and clipped yews, all while offering stunning views over the Cheshire and Shropshire plains.
