January 26 – Life in a Lockdown #43
It is hard to believe we have now hit the year mark. Yes, it has now been a year since Wuhan went into lockdown.
I think for many of us it still seemed like something which wouldn’t happen here. Wuhan is a long way away.
Yet here we are a year later, sat in lockdown for the third time. With the government having said that there is a possibility the new variant is not only a super spreader but also more deadly and doesn’t affect your sense of smell and taste.
On the plus side, over 6 million people in the UK have had their first dose of the vaccine now (probably more when this goes live as I’m writing this a couple of days in advice while I feel able).
The past year for many has changed so much of what we do. Personally, I’ve not hugged my Mum or Dad since last March, switched to using an online pharmacy (which has actually been amazing – our local one even delivers Ash’s insulin which a big name store wouldn’t do). I’ve not set foot in a supermarket in probably over a year (though we have nipped into our local small co-op a few times). I’ve had doctors appointments via the phone, mental health courses via Microsoft rooms and family meetups via zoom.
For those over in the pond in the US, Trump has gone and they now have Joe Biden as their president. I wish them all the best and hope these next 4 years work towards you healing. Also, anyone who is wondering yes the inauguration was shown here, in fact, both BBC1 and ITV showed it which only happens when something “big” is going on and it was probably on Sky News to at the very least.
On With The Linky!
Starting off I must say a huge thank you to Bex from Futures for joining me each week as my co-host and of course Jenni at Lyrical Host (affiliate link) for kickstarting the idea!
If you would like to take part, it’s simple:
We ask that you give both Bex and I a link back in your post, as hosts of the linkup and you can copy the questions below.
After that; all you need to do is pop back to mine or Bex’s post and add your link in the inlinkz.
1) How are you feeling/coping?
2) What have you been up to over the past 7 days?
3) What do you think the coming weeks and months might hold for you (or the world)?
4) If you could remind yourself something about this time in years to come what would it be?
5) What have you bought this week that others might like? Especially if from as mall business.
6) What is a unique (or not) technique you have used to get you through this time?
7) What is something your readers might not know about you?
8) What have you been grateful for over the past 7 days?

So what did week 43 hold:
1) How are you feeling/coping?
My pain is bad right now, I have a pretty high pain threshold. I remember a nurse once asking my Mum if I was being serious when I asked her if she had done a procedure yet and my Mum was like oh yes. I thought she has just been poking her finger in the area to find the right place.
Last week the pain in my left side hit a point where I just sat and cried and wanted it all to be over.
I’ll be honest it scared me to feel like that over pain.
2) What have you been up to over the past 7 days?
Not much, we’ve watched some TV. We’ve started watching How to Get Away With Murder on Netflix, so slowly getting through that.
I’ve been randomly watching the lives on the OOOOO app (affiliate – use refer Lifeinabreakdown to get £10 to spend on the app). It is interesting to find out what others think of products. You also get a chance to spin a wheel and win a voucher on lives – so, for instance, I won a £30 off a £40 spend and got my favourite Emma Hardie cleanser for just £17 for 100ml!
Probably not a good idea for when I’m manic though as I could see myself going a bit spend crazy. However, when I have a clear head on and know to only buy things I love I can get a real bargain.
3) What do you think the coming weeks and months might hold for you (or the world)?
Hopefully, as the weeks go on and more people are offered the vaccine a calmer world. I do worry how spreading the first and second doses out will affect people though.
4) If you could remind yourself something about this time in years to come what would it be?
How much a hug from some one you love can really make a huge difference to how you feel and how you cope.
It’s been 10 months since I hugged my parents.
5) What have you bought this week that others might like? Especially if from a small business.
Nothing this week – though because it has been so cold check out my batty slippers:

6) What is a unique (or not) technique you have used to get you through this time?
I’ve started carrying around a tiny teddy with me, it has beans in its belly and I squeeze it when I’m struggling. It might seem silly to some but actually gives me something to hold onto.
7) What is something your readers might not know about you?
From a very young age, I dreamed of becoming an archaeologist. If hadn’t become mentally ill I think I probably would have looked to have done something around it at university level. Instead, I started doing criminology and had to stop after getting swine flu as I struggle with retaining information and concentrating.
8) What have you been grateful for over the past 7 days?
Warming eye masks. I bought the Anatomicals Puffy The Eye Bag Slayer Revitalising Gel Eye Mask from ASOS (affiliate link) for only £4.
My eyes have been so sore of late, to the point I could barely wear my contacts, so I knew I needed to do something. So alongside making sure I drink three bottles of squash a day (sorry I can’t do plain water), I’ve been using the gel mask twice a day for 10 minutes each time.
Hands up it has really helped.

Lockdown has taken its toll on most people, let’s hope lockdown is over soon
Haha I love your Batty slippers, must have missed you posting them before!
They are so fun, aren’t they! 😂 I’m such a big kid.
I’m the same in that I haven’t been to a supermarket since last March, the thought of going into one now just makes me so anxious.
It’s going to be horrid going back to “normal” I think my claustrophobia is going to kick in big time.
I really do hope you start feeling better real soon. HTGAWM is a great show! I love it!
Onto season 5 now not to much longer to go eek!
I studied archaeology at Uni. Although I do not work in the field any more I still love reading history books.
There is something amazing about it isn’t there? I was a very strange child, I would grab all sorts of history books from the library.
I am sorry you are experiencing pain like that, the teddy sounds a great idea. Yes who would have thought we would be in this position a year later! I never realised the new variant was different in relation to the taste and smell, so that makes it even harder to work out if you have it. God.
I know! We have all been told to look out for that and now they are like well maybe that doesn’t happen anymore.
I can not believe it been a year already, where has the year gone, so much has happened and so much has changed.
It is crazy isn’t it – I can hardly work out whats happened and how.
Love your bat slippers! They are so cute. I am really glad Trump is no longer president. I think he took the US back by about 40 years!
They are so cute aren’t they, keep my toes nice and warm too. Oh definitely I feel for the US.
I hope lockdown is safely lifted soon. It is great to document it, I am sure it will help a lot
Interesting to hear today that schools will stay closed until at least March now!
This year has been such a blur, surreal really. I think having gone through the experience of being a twin mom, especially the first year, with 3 kids under the age of 3. It was our own personal lockdown. This year, they’re 5/5/8 so it’s hard because they need to get out and play, and we’ve decided to homeschool, but at least they have each other so I’m not too worried about the social aspect of it. Still, all the uncertainties and worries are there. This year has been rough!!
It is crazy isn’t it – over here most kids have been homeschooled for a lot of the year with schools having closed down. I hope it is all going OK for you.
I am so sorry you have been dealing with that amount of pain. I could not imagine. I absolutely love How to get away with murder. It was such a good show. I wanted to be a lawyer growing up and this show allowed me to (kind of) see how lawyers are. I hope things continue to get better and lookup.
It is really good – we are one season 4 I think now – so not much left to go. I guess the plus side of lockdown is getting to binge watch everything.
It sounds like you have had a hard week, so sorry for your pain I am trying CBD patches on C to see if they will help her pain
I hope they help her – I’ve heard it has been really effective for some people which is great.
I am sorry about your pain. I hope it starts to go away for you.
Also, I loved How To Get Away With Murder. Great show!
Thank you – it seems like a lot of people loved How to Get Away with Murder!
This pandemic is sure a hard time for most people. I have gotten used to staying home but it is hard on my boys. They want to go back to school to see their friends.
I can’t imagine what it is like for kids not being able to see school friends or family it really must be so hard.
I’m sorry your pain is so bad at the moment, hope it eases up soon! I keep meaning to watch How To Get Away With Murder – let me know what you think! Dean Thomas from HP is in it, isn’t he?
Thank you ❤. He is, he plays Wez so one of the main characters especially in the first couple of series as he has a lot of back story which comes out. Definitely worth a watch but it can get quite convoluted at times.
Oh I’m sorry to read you’ve been in pain, must be unbearable if you was brought to tears *virtual hugs* I loved HTGAWM, it was an amazing show – so sad it’s ended!
Thank you ❤. I have to admit the plus side of watching it all now is that we can just watch it all the way through. Really sad when a good series ends for good though. I hope it has a good ending!
