How to Choose a Writing Style for Your Blog
As any experienced professional knows, how you say something matters just as much as what you actually say.
In the same vein, writing style and voice can have a big impact on the success (or lack thereof) of your professional blog.
There is no right or wrong answer when it comes to writing style. However, it’s important to strike the right chord with your content.
Making sure that your tone matches the nature of your content is perhaps the most integral aspect of creating a successful blog.
With that in mind, today we’ll share four tips that will help you develop a writing style that fits your blog perfectly.

Step #1 Consider Your Audience
Good writing is universal, right?
Sort of. The fact of the matter is that, yes, certain elements of sound writing transcend time and space.
But in order for business content to make an impact, it has to resonate with a specific audience. Before you begin crafting your blog, consider who’s going to be reading it.
The age, gender, interests, and makeup of your audience should influence the subjects you cover and the style in which you write.
Step #2 Look in the Mirror
Introspection can be difficult. Yet, it’s an important step in creating an engaging blog. Ask yourself: is your company light-hearted or serious?

Cutting-edge or old-school? Formal or informal? Though business owners may struggle to label their company in such a way, doing so will allow you to craft content that reflects your brand and your industry.
For instance, it’s unbecoming for a business that provides private security for events to have a blog that’s full of dad-jokes and pop-culture references.
Step #3 Review Existing Content
Unless your company is brand new, chances are you already have some form of content on your site or posted to your social media accounts.
If you’re looking to shake things up, make sure to review these pieces first and earmark which blogs, web pages, and posts garnered the most interest. (Note, progressive businesses also analyze their competitors social-media posts as well.)
If a certain style has worked for you in the past, don’t be afraid to go back to it now!

Step #4 Get Your Team Together
Most blogs are the product of several different team members. As such, effective collaboration is key to developing a voice for your brand.
Letting one person dominate the tone and agenda of your content is a risky strategy; if that person leaves or their productivity levels drop, your blog will directly suffer.
Better is to encourage your team members to work together to create a style that everyone can mimic easily.
True, no two writers are exactly the same, but keeping your staff on the same page will ensure consumers have a positive experience when they visit your site.
