Happy Paul is sometimes not the happiest of Pauls, he is someone who like many of us has battled bouts of depression, and has searched for happiness in all the wrong places.
In time they came to the conclusion that being happy doesn’t have to be about unadulterated joy or smiling from ear to ear, but it can just be looking after yourself.
So as a brand Paul and those at Happy Paul hope to help bring a smile to you, and uplift your mood. Of course, they can’t say they will make you happy, however, they do hope to help by making mood-lifting self-care products.
What’s more, they also donate a share of their profits to Young Minds.
As someone who definitely finds that scents can uplift my mood, I was interested in trying out their perfume when asked.
Bright Spice
The signature fragrance from Happy Paul is Bright Spice, it has been made to be gender-neutral and contains the following notes:
- Top notes: Bergamot, Spearmint, Lemon, Eucalyptus, Pink Peppercorn, Cinnamon Bark.
- Mid notes: Frankincense, Petitgrain, Rosemary, Jasmine.
- Base notes: Cedarwood, Vetivert, Sandalwood, Musks.
As such on the first spritz, you get this wonderfully uplifting burst of spearmint and citrus, which to me is both warming and perfect for giving a bit of a boost to the start of your day. However, this scent perhaps only gets better, as it begins to settle you find a warm, spicy heart which is both grounding and cosy. It is finished off with a subtle woody blend that helps the perfume with its staying power.
As such this is a well-rounded fragrance that evolves beautifully with its citrus/spice combination.
The fragrance is also vegan-friendly, and offers 10% of profits from its sale to Young Minds, while they also look to be environmentally conscious!
Bright Spice Packaging
One thing I found interesting was the packaging for Bright Spice, it is actually offered in 3 different bottle choices. The bell bottle which I have, features alongside a round and rectangular version. All three bottles feature this sleek, clean design which just brings about happy thoughts with its lovely yellow sunshine colour.
At first, I was a bit confused about the different bottle shapes, however I think it is a really clever idea. After all a lot of people love a good perfume bottle and personally I would pick a bell shape over a rectangle as it’s easier to hold, while someone else would be the complete opposite! So actually all adds a little extra joy to the experience of having a shape for you.
What’s more inside each perfume bottle you will find a citrine crystal. Citrine is linked to bringing about a positive mood and optimism, while it is connected with the energy of the sun, which can help promote a feeling of happiness and delight. Once your bottle of perfume has been finished the citrine can be removed from the bottle and carried with you.
My Thoughts on Bright Spice
Honestly I am really impressed with Bright Spice, I love the mix of lemon and spearmint you get at the start, there is something so uplifting about it, the dry down as well with the citrus and spice is a lovely mix to see you through the day.
Personally, I found that I got around 4-6 hours of scent from this, and it offers a moderate sillage. However, one of the great things about Bright Spice is it’s made to be sprayed when you need it, which means if you want to top up as the day goes on you do it.
Happy Paul Bright Spice really is a fragrance with a difference from the ideas behind, to the ethos to the fragrance itself.
