For the love of a good Acer: Review

I’ve used Acer as a brand on and off over the years as a couple of my laptops have been made my them, however I hadn’t really ventured out of that zone, so when I was given the opportunity to try the Acer Liquid E3 mobile phone I had to give it a whirl.

The Liquid E3 from Acer is a mid-range Android phone and along with the Acer Iconia A3 make up just two of Acer’s releases this year. This nifty phone features a 13-megapixal rear facing camera, while the front facing is 2MP and also has a flash (great for selfie taking), 4.7 inch screen, 4GB internal storage, with connections available by GPS, Wi-Fi, 3G and Bluetooth to name a few.

One of the main selling points for this phone maybe that is allows the duel usage of two sim-cards allowing you to perhaps run a personal and business number on the same phone. You are able to set a different ringtone for each sim and whenever you are doing anything it asks you which network you would like to connect via (if both sims happen to be on the same network they are also identifiable by number).

My main worry about the phone when I first saw it was the size, having been used to using an iPhone 4 the size difference was extremely noticeable, however the slightly curving edges of the Acer Liquid E3 make for a really comfortable fit in your hand.

I found it easy in set up and use, the camera is so much better than the 5mp I was used to on my old phone. While it does have the odd “clunky” moments (I did manage to completely freeze it at one point wanting it do everything at once – but I couldn’t tell you a piece of technology I haven’t done that to) it runs quite smoothly most of the time.

My main bugbear is that I keep muting things on it and they don’t mute – but from talking to others I think that is an Android issue, rather than a phone issue. Either that or Facebook just think I really need to know every time I receive a message, no matter the time of day.

Overall I think one thing I have learnt from trying out the Liquid E3, is that no matter the product be it an Acer tablet, laptop or phone, they definitely are not a brand to pass by and while they have for most technology products flown under my radar, that certainly won’t be happening any more.
