Five Animated Christmas Films to Watch this Winter

I thought that writing this post would be easy. That there must be loads of Animated Christmas films out there. But the truth is, there aren’t actually a whole lot of recent (and decent) films in this category. Here are 5 of my favourites that you should make sure to watch this festive season.

The Polar Express
Wouldn’t you just love to hop on a train and zoom off to the North Pole? Sadly, that’s probably never going to happen to you but thankfully you can satisfy your imagination with The Polar Express instead. A young Billy sets off on an adventure after being picked up by a train conductor (Tom Hanks). Along the way he learns all about friendship and the spirit of Christmas. What more could you want?

Arthur Christmas
Arthur Christmas is one of my all-time favourite Christmas films but I feel like it has somewhat slipped under the radar for most people. This is a fantastic, feel-good, Christmas movie that all families need to see. Christmas fanatics will see a little bit of themselves in the character Arthur Christmas, which makes it all the better. This film is cute, it is heart-warming, it is hilarious. Make sure you watch it this Christmas.

A Christmas Carol
From the same director as The Polar Express comes the more recent A Christmas Carol. This one is also star studded with Jim Carrey taking the lead role of Scrooge. Would you like a visit from the ghosts of past, present and future? Christmas is the perfect time to reflect upon the year and plan for the what’s coming. This film is the perfect reminder to seize life my the horns because unfortunately we probably won’t be getting those second chances! (Bah, humbug)

The Nightmare Before Christmas
In my opinion it’s totally legit to watch The Nightmare Before Christmas anywhere from Halloween to Christmas. A mishmash of your favourite winter festivals, this film, imagined by Tim Burton, is whacky, fun, and just a little bit scary. Join Jack Skellington as he discovers Christmas Town and becomes obsessed with Christmas. (I mean who wouldn’t, amirite?)

The Snowman (1982)
An oldy, but a goody. The Snowman on screen dates all the way back to 1982 but I still consider it a classic. There’s no dialogue in this film whatsoever, there’s just cheerful Christmas music to convey the ups and downs of the story. It’s wonderfully short and simple but it’ll never go out of style.
