The Real-Life Story Behind the Book

The inspiration for this novel came from a real moment in Edinburgh in 2001, when a friend of Michael’s changed his hairstyle to match his and people began pointing out the uncanny likeness. The idea of a doppelgänger stuck with him for years.

Writing a Thriller… 20 Years in the Making

Michael began writing Doppelganger: Harbinger of Evil in 2001, but it wasn’t until October 2024, on holiday in Kos, that he finally put pen to paper properly, filling a couple of notepads in just 10 days. After fleshing out a few subplots back home, he handed the finished manuscript to his wife, Victoria (also his editor), later that year.

Who Is Michael Craig?

Michael Craig is a HR Consultant at York St John University, and his experience working closely with people over the years has helped him create believable, multi-layered characters, some inspired by the very best (and worst) traits he’s seen in real life.
