Recently I was challenged by Home Bargains to see what I could come up with when they sent me some of their baking products that are available both in-store and on-line. Now I have to admit it’s been a long time since I did anything much in the kitchen. I’ve never been much of cook but I have always enjoyed baking, when I was feeling ’emotional’ I would get out the baking goodies and pound away at the mixture, but since I have had fibro and chronic fatigue I found standing for any amount of time to bake just not an option so it all got pushed to the back burner. But this last week has seen a perching stool arrive for the kitchen so of course I had to give that these baking delights from Home Bargains a go.
As soon as me baking anything came up I had 2 requests one from Ash for something with chocolate in and another from my Dad for Lemon Cake (actually my Dad may have been pestering me for months if not years for one!).
In the end I decided to make some fairy cakes with chocolate chips as well as the lemon cake – although it meant I didn’t use everything from my wonderful baking kid from Home Bargains I will at least be able to have some fun in the future with the rest of it and I have to say for someone who hasn’t baked in years I think I did ok. they definitely seemed to go down well on the taste test even if they didn’t look so fancy!
As for in the future – I will definitely be checking out Home Bargains for kitchen goodies as all the things I was sent cost between 99p and £3 which I have to say I think was a total bargain.
What’s your favourite thing to bake; do you have a recipe I should try out?
*I was sent a box of cooking goodies from Home Bargains free of charge to help with this post.
It is amazing what they stock at Home Bargains and is always worth popping in if passing
