Best Disney films for adults
When it comes to kids films, it’s not just the little ones that get to have all the fun. Remember those long hours, spent curled up on the sofa watching the adventures of The Little Mermaid or hiding behind a cushion when Night on Bald Mountain started on your Fantasia VHS tape? Well, you can relive that magic but with current Disney releases – and you don’t even need to have kids to do it!
If you put down the kids’ films when you became ‘an adult’ then it’s time to pick them up again and have a little fun. Here are the best Disney films for adults to enjoy and add to your DVD collection or Netflix list:
Big Hero 6
Why wouldn’t you love watching the adventures of a genius wonderchild, a big squishy robot called Baymax and their gang of loveable friends fighting evil? Big Hero 6, released in 2014, was well received by children and parents alike and should definitely be introduced to your DVD collection when it is released in May.
Based on a lesser-known Marvel comic, it is reminiscent of the much loved Avengers film franchise and even includes a cameo from Stan Lee, plus the bonus scene at the end of the credits.
Frozen
Okay, okay. We know that you don’t want to build a snowman or hear Idina Menzel belt out that song again but if you haven’t watched Frozen yet you should definitely put those two things into context – you might just find yourself enjoying it, in fact you definitely will.
If you loved the songs Disney movies produced back when you were a child then you will find yourself falling in love with this Disney musical, so much so that you’ll be carrying a Queen Elsa lunchbox to work or eating your scrambled eggs off a Frozen themed breakfast set. Cinderella
Actor and Director Kenneth Brannagh, who also directed Thor and Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, recently took on the real life remake of Disney’s Cinderella and truly achieved magical film making perfection.
If you are a traditionalist when it comes to your kids stories, love highly detailed costumes, a plot that doesn’t stray far from the original story, beautiful heroes and heroines and evil villains, plus enough romance and tension to put a young adult novel to shame, then this is the Disney film for you.
Wreck-it-Ralph
If you remember those games arcades filled with noise and lights and those ancient games consoles you’d spend hours playing Sonic on, then Wreck-it-Ralph is the perfect Disney film for any adult, as it brings back feelings of nostalgia and fun. The story follows Ralph, who is a bad guy in a video game but wants to change to become a good guy.
The film is cleverly put together, using the cables and power outlets of the arcade as transportation, train stations and the game machines themselves as homes for the characters. It’s definitely the film to choose (and then add to your DVD collection) if you’re looking for some Disney fun with some creativity thrown in.
I’ve seen Frozen and Cinderella and I’d agree that they’re not just for kids. I know adults who love them 🙂

So many Disney films I love but my favourites are Sleeping Beauty, Lady and the Tramp and Aladdin
My all time favourite Disney film is Aladdin, for adults it has every. The storyline is great, can’t really complain as its taken from the original story. Its fun, it belly laughs hilarious, very entertaining for me. Robin Williams is King, his personality shines through, the best genie ever.
Strangely my sons don’t like it.
My favourite Disney films are the Winnie the Pooh ones, I’m a mad fan! Out of the ones above I’ve only seen Frozen!!
Apparently I have a huge problem. I love Disney films but haven’t seen any of these! Clearly I’m going to have to stop posting on my blog for a few days so I can catch up on them all!
I’ve yet to see the Cinderella remake but I’m excited to check it out (we’re all kids at heart, aren’t we?). And I agree with the other comment, Big Hero 6 is fantastic!
I think Big Hero 6 has taken the top spot of my favourite film ever! I still get teary eyed when it fist bumps Baxmax’s hand at the end and it reveals the chip! AMAZING!
