Bedroom Ideas to Make A Sleep Haven

My bedroom is one of the rooms I spend a lot of time in (perhaps equal or more than the living room), and over the years, I’ve tried to make it somewhere I can relax and unwind and rest even if I am not sleeping.
Thankfully, these days there are lots of things you can get to help with making the bedroom more accessible, from ladder ropes to help you sit up, to tables that you can fit onto or over your bed to help if you need to work from your bed.
However, this post is all about the things all of us can do to make the bedroom feel more comfortable and fit for our needs, from fitted bedroom furniture to making sure we make the most of the space available. However, here are a few things I would suggest to help make your bedroom an area where you can rest and restore yourself every night.
Bed
The main thing to do when it comes to deciding which bed to buy is to think about what you need from a bed.
This is due to the fact that there are so many different options out there. We have a wooden slatted bed, which has worked well for us for many years now, thanks to how supportive and robust it is – I’ve fallen on it with force and it’s held up to that.
However, some people might like to be more fashionable or to look for beds that offer more of a specific solution,n such as a TV bed or one which offers storage.
Mattress
Once you have decided on the bed, you are going to want to think about the mattress.
With so many different types out there, the best thing to do is to go and try some different mattress types. However, if you can’t, a lot of online retailers do offer 100-night (or similar) trials. This allows you to get the perfect mattress to suit your needs.
I think most of us, as we get older, have spent at least a couple of nights trying to sleep on a mattress that just doesn’t work for us, and as such have an idea of the sort we prefer, be that soft or firm and spring or memory foam.
Whatever you do when looking to buy a mattress, give yourself time and shop around to know what style suits your needs before committing.
Bedding
You might think bedding is all about setting the feel of your room, allowing you to bring some personality in via the design. However, it is so much more than that. For instance, in the summer you are likely to want a lower tog duvet than in the winter, so look for ones that offer different tog options such as these from You Comfort.
While the choice of material, be that cotton, satin or whatever works for you, can make a difference both to the feel and comfort of your sleep.
That’s without factoring pillows, do you like 1 or 2? Would you rather soft or firm? All are important choices when it comes to making sure you get a good night’s sleep.
Storage Space
One thing many homes lack these days is storage, so incorporating it into your room somehow is a must.
Many people might feel like fitted bedroom furniture can help make the most of all the space within the room. For instance, using a wardrobe with sliding doors can work well in bedrooms where room to open doors is limited.
This can also be something to think about when choosing your bed as some offer the ability to store things under them, be that in drawers, via the bed lifting up or just room for storage boxes to be placed underneath.
Accessories
I feel like accessories can help bring your style into the bedroom.
For instance, to try and make a more cosy feel, I have extra pillows and blankets around the room. I also use a lot of soft furnishings to help keep me in place as I sleep. As I’ve learnt, my joints move about more than normal, thus a soft pillow or teddy under my arm helps keep my shoulder joint more upright.
What’s more, a good wedge pillow not only gives me a prop during sleep but can also prop me up when I need to sit up.
Flooring
It is always worth thinking about the flooring carefully in any room, especially when it comes to the bedroom. For instance, would you like to be getting out of bed in the morning on a cold floor, or would you like something warmer?
However, if you do find your floor cold, you can then choose a rug to cover it with. Which works well in the bedroom, both for keeping your feet warm and adding style.
Colour
An essential part of your bedroom is the colours you choose to use within it. Colours can affect how we feel, and as such, choosing a colour that relaxes you, rather than makes you feel ready to go, is a must in an area you want to relax and unwind in.
For the bedroom, colours which are pastel in nature, such as blues and greens, work well. However, this is a personal choice of what colour works best for you.
So I think some ideas can make your bedroom feel a little cosier and make sure you relax and unwind in your sleep haven.

The Goose down and feather duvet. I feel that we have come full circle with our knowledge of the best quality materials to help a good nights sleep. Natural products are far superior to polyester fillings. Just like my Nan used to use.

Duck Feather Pillows – don’t judge. I’ve had the same pillow my whole life, my Nan gave it to me – honestly I think it was her mums. It’s a feather pillow and has lost most of its volume now but I can’t sleep with any other. I’m going to have to get one soon because I’m 38 and I don’t know how much longer it will last 🤣🤣🤣

I love the luxury dog beds- not often you find one that has arthritic support for elderly dogs and can be washed in a standard washing machine.
