Are Linkies Still Relevant in 2019 Blogging?
Back when I started blogging, I was very involved with linkies.
Myself and Rebecca used to run one for many years, in fact, I still run one for competitions.
That said my personal view has changed on them a lot over the years.
I was going through old posts not long ago, trying to make a more concise category list. In doing this I realised I had 100s of posts which were so similar in content.
Not just right here on my blog, but with all the other co-hosts of each linky.
Which got me thinking are linkies still relevant in 2019?

What are Linkies?
For those of you who don’t know what linkies are they are a place where bloggers come together and share links.
Often there are rules such as visit 2 or 3 people and leave them a comment.
Some linkies also pick a blogger of the week to share with the bloggers who join up each week.
This means they can be a great way to find new blogs to read and connect with peers.

But Are They A Good Thing?
I have 1000s of visitors to my competition page each and every month, to me, it’s a good thing to be able to share other competitions from around the world.
That said I am not creating duplicate content as it’s a singular page, where I just update the linkie every quarter and try and delete of closed competitions in between.
Over the years I’ve heard lots of pros and cons to them.
A lot of people link dump – this is a HUGE issue across the blogging world. People want something for nothing, they want the visitors but they don’t want to bother visiting. Of course, there is no way to work out who’s doing their part or not or ban people.
It’s a system run on trust and I think something that wore both me and Rebecca out, in the end, was that people took advantage of the trust.
That alongside trying to rewrite the same thing, week-in, week-out causes huge burnout.
On the flipside, you can bring together a community and for many that is enough. To know people enjoy coming and seeing what others are up to can fill you with a sense of being helpful.

Conclusion.
Linkies can be a wonderful thing. They definitely have their place.
That said I think we need to find ways to move and change with the times with them.
We need to protect our blogs and think about the future and not having to deal with 100s of nearly identical posts.
For other ways to help build links, you should look to know “what is authority hacker” as it one of the best tools to help you build up your links.
What do you think about linkies? Are they something you still run on your blog?
