The Ultimate “I’m Bored” List for the Christmas Holiday
There’s bored… and then there’s Christmas holiday bored, where time becomes liquid, and you start considering reorganising the spice rack for entertainment.
Here’s your pick-one rescue list, split by effort level.
5-minute boredom busters

- Put on one song and tidy for the length of it
- Make a snack plate like you’re hosting a tiny party for yourself
- Watch one YouTube rabbit hole video (guilt-free)
- Send a “thinking of you” message to someone
- Change your phone wallpaper (instant fake fresh start)
30-minute cosy activities
- Library trip + pick a totally random book
- A “cosy admin” job: update passwords, clear one email folder
- Make hot chocolate properly (whisked, fancy, marshmallows if you’re feeling wild)
- Watch one episode of something new
- Try a puzzle, wordsearch, or cosy game on your phone
2-hour “I actually want to do something” ideas

- Bake something simple (even packet mix counts)
- Reorganise one drawer (ONLY one, don’t start a life overhaul)
- Start a new hobby mini-test: journalling, doodling, crochet, Lego, model kits
- Walk somewhere you don’t normally walk and take photos of random things
Low-energy “I can’t even” list
- Sit by a window with a blanket and a drink
- Put on a comfort film you’ve already seen (zero brain required)
- Do a face mask or just… moisturise and call it self-care
- Make a “things I can do in January” list (no pressure, just ideas)
Mini challenge: one tiny new thing a day

Pick one thing from this post each day.
Not because of productivity, but because boredom is loud and sometimes your brain wants a gentle distraction.
What’s your favourite way to stay busy during the Christmas holidays?

no little ones to amus anymore but these ideas would have been great 30 years ago
I don’t have any kids – these are aimed at all ages, in fact mostly adults as I didn’t even think of kids when I wrote it.
I have to say I rarely get bored and often do some of the tasks you suggest, I love to bake and watch a comfort film, my favourite at this time of the year is Its a Wonderful Life
I love the idea of sitting by a window in a blanket with a hot drink watching the world go by.
I am the same I don’t often feel bored but I do find the “inbetween week” very strange and struggle with it for some reason.
I do too
I never really get bored I have lots of things to do – just some are more attractive than others
I have to admit I’m not that bad at getting board but I often struggle in the inbetween week for some reason.
well hopefully Santa brings a new ‘bored’ game 🙂
