Saturday Morning Cards – Plane Crazy via 3rd Down

One thing I’ve found I quite enjoy collecting is cards, I blame Ash for this a little as he’s long collected Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh, while I’ve recently got into Disney cards. So I was interested to come across Saturday Morning Cards during their second card release which happened to be Winnie The Pooh. Since then I’ve been trying to get my hands on one card from each new set and I thought it would be fun to share with you SMC and their UK distributor 3rd Down.

What is Saturday Morning Cards?

Saturday Morning Cards (SMC) hit the card-collecting scene running just this year, with their first release coming in just May. Their cards mix the nostalgia of Saturday Morning TV with card collecting, with cards so far celebrating; Steamboat Willie, Winnie the Pooh, Plane Crazy and official collaborations with Rocketeer and Dick Tracey. Just today they teased something coming with Capcom which many think will be Street Fighter thanks to previous spoilers

SMC is based in the US and each of their collections so far has been a limited release of 1000 cards, with a silver card being the base and more limited cards including; Matrix /199, Stars /100, Ice Silver /50, Ice Gold /25, Gold /10, Black Gold /5, Black 1/1 and Sketch Cards 1/1. Bar the sketch cards each type of card includes the same image with a different background, meaning you can choose to buy just one card or try and get different backgrounds if you so wish.

As well as the releases on their website they have also been to Burbank Card Show and LA Comic Con with more limited releases showcasing different backgrounds on some of their previous offerings. In fact, I was lucky enough to get /10 from Burbank shipped over to me!

What’s more, SMC strive to be affordable, with their cards not costing too much! In fact, perhaps the hardest thing is getting your hands on one as they sell out so quickly. However, here in the UK 3rd Down take care of that for us as they work with SMC to get their cards to the UK audience!

The Plane Crazy Limited Card Release: What’s it all About?

The Plane Crazy Limited Card Release celebrates the 1928 American animated short film by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks as with previous releases it sold out within hours on the SMC website. Limited to just 1000 prints it included; /199 Matrix, /100 Stars, /50 Ice, /25 Ice Gold, /10 Gold, /5 Black Gold, and Black 1/1 with sketch card, so even pulling a base silver you still have a limited release card on your hands!

I grabbed two Plane Crazy from 3rd Down when they hit the shores of the UK and pulled two /199 matrix cards and one will be heading right into the hands of a lucky winner!

While the Plane Crazy release is long sold out on SMC, 3rd Down still has a handful in stock and I would suggest getting your hands one on ASAP if you are after one as they won’t last long. They can be bought here with them coming in at £45.

Will these become one of the collectable must-haves in the future? Well SMC are only getting bigger with each release and remember they have only been selling cards since May this year.
