How Individual Actions Can Change the World
Can one person make any change in the world? You might think not – in fact, that’s precisely what a lot of people think, and it means that they don’t try to do anything or make a difference because they think there’s no point.
However, although it might not seem as though it’s possible, the reality is that change has to start someone, and if no one ever did anything because they thought their individual actions didn’t count, nothing would get done at all. Your actions can change the world, and here are some reasons to remember that’s the truth.
Make Others Notice

Yes, one person doing one small act, is not going to make much of an impact, that is true – so surely what we said above can’t be a fact? Surely, in that case, an individual action can’t change the world? Well, that’s not accurate – the one small act alone might not make much change, but what if it inspired many other people to do the same thing? Then you’d have many people doing something, and that’s when change starts to happen.
It all has to start with one person who wants to make a difference and who feels that their action, whatever it might be, can do that. They need to let others know, and show them that this is a positive thing to do, and the more people who believe it and start following in that first person’s footsteps, the more change can happen. So why not become the reason people can do good things and the world can change for the better by starting that action?
The Final Push

Just like every campaign for change has to start somewhere, it has to end somewhere as well, and sometimes that could be in the form of reaching a certain level of donations, for example, or getting that last crucial signature on a petition.
So if you can start something with your small, individual action, you might be able to end it too – or rather, you might be able to put things into motion because you were the final piece of the puzzle. Just think, by using Macmillan’s free will services and leaving a legacy gift in your will, no matter how big or small it might be, that could be the final sum of money needed to kickstart a new project or help one more person who needs it. You just never know what a difference your kindness and generosity can make, so even if it seems like a small, individual action, it could be everything to someone.
It’s For You
Although doing something good that’s going to help others is, of course, for those others, it’s crucial to remember that it’s also for you – when you do a good deed, your body will be flooded with positive hormones, and you’ll feel amazing.
So even if your individual action won’t change the world (at least not all by itself), it could change your world and brighten up your day, so that’s a great reason to do it no matter what.
