Haacht – Belgium Beer

Knowing absolutely nothing about any type of alcohol I wasn’t sure if my Dad would like to try out a case of Belgium beer for me. So in the past few weeks, I have learnt that Belgium is well known for very good beer! So that told me.
This particular case contains 8 33cl beers from the Haacht Brewery (7 of which are unique). Each of the different beers has a unique taste, with something for every kind of beer lover.

My Dad has said those he has tried so far offer a really good beer, which is refreshing at the end of a long day. He said “an excellent selection of really interesting Belgian beers”
For a few tasting notes on the beers:
Primus (5.2%) is the OG Pilsner and the perfect way to quench your thirst. It’s initially sweet with a touch of bitterness.
Tongerlo Tripel (9%) stands out thanks to the scale of fruity notes. It has a soft initial taste which develops into a pleasant bitterness.
Super 8 Flandrien (6.4%) is a blond full of character. Think hop, coriander, oak and vanilla. It’s strong but easy to drink.
The Haacht – Belgium Beer (affiliate link) is sold on Amazon and comes in 8 or 12-bottle boxes, with the price starting at £22.75 for 8.

Countdown to a Killing – Tom MacAulay
Told through a series of inwoven correspondence via platforms such as email and WhatsApp messages, this book follows the countdown to a killing and what led to it. Full of suspense it follows multiple perspectives and points of view from individuals who are bound together.

Up, Up And Away – John Brackenbury
The perfect coffee table book, Up, Up And Away features stunning photos of butterflies and other insects. The photographs have been cleverly taken in landscape, to show how they live within the same world as us, rather than focusing only on the subject itself.
The unusual perspective of the images included in this book is a real talking point and offers photos you will want to go back and look at again and again. As such this is the perfect gift for anyone who has a love of the natural world.
Up, Up And Away (affiliate link) comes in at £23 for a hardback edition.

N-4 Down The Hunt for the Arctic Airship Italia – Mark Piesing
I think I’ve mentioned on the blog before that I can’t actually read books that well anymore, which means I actually choose to showcase books I may not have before, as I’m choosing ideas not only for myself but for others. My Dad is someone in particular who I think of when choosing books and this is one of them which went off to him and he read it within days. In fact, at one point I was told off for finishing my hospital appointment too quickly.
This particular book follows the true story of the largest polar rescue mission in history, as rescue teams rush to try and find survivors of airship Italia code-named N-4 after it was struck by a terrible storm and crash landed in the Artic. Helping lead the search was Roald Amundsen, the poles’ greatest explorer, who sadly soon went missing himself, with his body never having been found. My Dad says “ a fascinating story, well researched and brilliantly told, about the explorers of the early 1900’s and their bosses.”
Find out more about this incredible rescue missing in this riveting story.
N-4 Down: The Hunt for the Arctic Airship Italia (affiliate link) comes in at £11.95.
