Simple Christmas DIYs to Do This Year

One thing that can be fun to do around the Christmas season is making your own decorations or presents for friends and family. Today I have put together three simple ideas that are perfect for the upcoming season and are simple to make at home.
Paper Chains
Paper chains are easy and fun to make. All you need is construction paper, scissors and glue or tape. Cut strips of paper into any width and length that suits you out of the paper. Fold one end of the strip over to meet the other side and glue or tape the ends together.
Next, fold another strip over and loop it through the first one and glue the ends together. Continue in this manner using different colours to create a pattern until you reach the desired length.
If you would like to make a version that can be used year after year, you could think about making it with fabric, and then sew each of the ends together.
Christmas Cards
Making Christmas cards is the perfect way to gift something unique to your family and friends. These can easily be done both using pens, paper and card, as well as utilising online tools.
If you would like to make the card digitally there are many simple to use programs to help you design. Pinecone Centrepiece
Making a pine cone centrepiece is easy and they look beautiful sitting around the home during the festive period. Start by collecting a couple of baskets and enough pine cones to fill them up. Use spray paint to create a variety of Christmas colours or spray the cones with spray adhesive and then sprinkle them with glitter. Place some evergreen boughs and red berries around in the basket to add a splash of colour.
Making your own Christmas decorations is a great way to spend some downtime and can also offer relaxing time. Remember you are in charge of how elaborate or simple the decorations or gifts you come with are. While it can also help you save money, which is perhaps especially important this year with the cost of living crisis.

We used to love making paper-chains when my son was little. We did Christmas cards too, but they were more like hard work!

The only problem was that the metallic effect paper chains never used to stick properly and would fall down (until we learned to staple them instead)! I’m such a clutz that that was about the level of my crafting skills.

When my children were younger we used to make our own cards to give to family and friends
Making your own cards is such a lovely idea, I used to make them before my hands gave up working properly a lot.
Brilliant, I hadn’t realised that you could still make paper chains. I was sure that they had disappeared along with my childhood.
You can still get kits as well if you don’t want to just use paper and glue from around the home.
I make quite a few cards and last year made door wreaths as gifts before Christmas
I would love to have a go at making a door wreath but not sure my hands would allow it.
I love making paper chains with the kids and I don’t know if you remember Art Attack from our youth, but I learn how to make some Christmas snowflake chains there as well and we tend to make them every year using old magazines and brochures.
Oh gosh yes that brings backs memories, I absolutely used to LOVE Art Attack when I was younger.

I love doing crafts at christmas! We always make a new bauble each to put on the tree every year. I love making soap and knitting things for gifts. My Pinterest board is mostly filled with Christmas crafts!!

Last year and again this Christmas, I hand-painted original watercolour Christmas gift tags. Most I used for our family last year. This year, I’m working to sell them to friends and locally…mostly to make back the money for the supplies. Each tag is hand sketched and then hand painted. So, even the same design will always be slightly different. It is mostly a labour of love.
