Best Sleeping Tips for New Parents
Have you just welcomed a new little angel to the world? Then it’s highly likely you’ll be suffering when it comes to sleep. From the 2am cries, to the 4am feeds, sleep deprivation can quickly sink in for new parents. Sadly, your baby has no recognition of how much sleep you need and tend to be nocturnal.
Here are some tops tips and tricks for new parents, to ensure that you both get the best night’s sleep you possibly can, whilst ensuring your baby gets the attention it craves.

1 – Get a comfy bed
This may sound silly as you don’t have much of an opportunity to sleep but a comfy bed is incredibly important. When you get a chance to sleep, you need to take it and you can’t do that with an uncomfortable bed. Try and find a bed with plenty of space so you can stretch out and utilise the space. You may also find that your baby comes and sleeps with you some nights. There’s a great range of double beds from Bed Guru if you’re looking for the best.
2 – Sleep as much as you can when your baby sleeps
Your baby won’t have any sort of routine in place, so you need to take every opportunity you get to sleep when your baby does. Whether this is 3am or 3pm, this is a prime time to get that all-important shut-eye.
3 – Establish a routine
This is one of the most important things you can do. Getting a routine in place ensures you both get as much shut-eye as possible. Whether this is taking it in turns every time your baby needs feeding or having one night on one night off, establish the routine so it’s as fair as possible.

4 – Patience is key
Patience truly is key. You need to not only remain patient with your baby but more importantly each other. Don’t snap and avoid arguments, this all links back to the routine. Everything needs to be done fairly so that you both remain as patient as possible.
5 – It’s not embarrassing to say yes to help
It really isn’t embarrassing to say yes to any help that’s offered. Your family and friends will be excited and will want to help. This is a great opportunity for you to catch up on some sleep and take a break. If you get offered help, say yes and don’t feel embarrassed.

6 – The early bird catches the worm
This is likely the last thing you’ll want to do after a bad night’s sleep but getting up and going for a walk in the morning is the best thing you can do. It benefits your circadian rhythm and will allow your baby to start developing their own sleeping pattern. The fresh air will also benefit you and make you more alert and awake.
Hopefully, these top tips have been of benefit to you as a new parent. If you have any other suggestions feel free to get in touch in the comments, I’m sure other parents will appreciate all the advice you have!
