How Much? The Cost of a Date
Date night, a night like no other, a time when you and your loved one can get together and enjoy some quality time One of the things about dates is they can cost as little, or as much as you like. However, sometimes it is nice to push out the boat and organise a really amazing date, visiting one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
No matter if you fancy visiting Rome, London, Paris or New York, the perfect date for you and your significant other is out there and who knows, it just might be the special occasion that takes your relationship to the next level! Together with Angelic Diamonds, retailers of bespoke palladium engagement rings, I’ve come up with some advice on making the most of your date no matter where you are in the world.
Rome
Rome, the capital city of beautiful Italy, is brimming with over 3,000 years of art, architecture and culture. Making for the perfect date location for romance and sophistication.
For the true fans
As a couple do you love excitement and the thrill of the match? Then how about going to see an A. S. Roma football match. Tickets for a football match at the grand Stadio Olimpico can cost €100 (£88.02), of course, you just need to make sure you both love the game, after all, it would be a bit awkward should one of you be bored.
The people watchers
For those that love to watch the world go by then taking a walk to the picturesque Trevi Fountain and making a wish by throwing a penny in for good luck could be your perfect date. Once you’re finished, head on over to one of the nearby cafes and sit and people watch to your heart’s content.
The classic date
For those who like the idea of the classic dinner date, this is of course completely possible in the fair city of Rome. But how much will it cost? Well in Rome, you can expect to pay €21 (£18.48) for your taxi, €57 (£50.17) for a meal for two in one of Rome’s restaurants. Then to finish off the night, 2 tickets to the cinema will come in around €17 (£14.96).
London
London is a city of so to do, full of shops, bars and restaurants, there is something to keep you both entertained for much more than just one date. It’s a good idea to plan out your visit to London properly and get to know the hidden gems that will help make it a really interesting date location for you both.
Living the high-life
For those who love the finer things in life, London is full of things to do and see, for instance, how about an afternoon tea at one of London’s most prestigious hotels? Claridge’s has a stunning package coming in at £50 per person, allowing you and your date to enjoy tea, scones and sandwiches at this amazing hotel in Mayfair. What’s more, if you both have some money to spare and fancy indulging in some more luxury how about booking a superior queen room at £690 a night?
For the inquisitive
For those who love to learn, London has so much on offer, full of great museums, you can really look to learn about the cultural history of London.
Many of the museums are free to enter such as; The Natural History Museum, the National Portrait Gallery and Tate Modern, all of which are just perfect to set those brain-cells sparking. Once you have finished touring the inside, head out into the streets of London, check out Westminster Bridge and cross over it to see Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. From here you could look to head onto Southbank, perfect for picking up a delicious bite to eat, while you take in the views around you.
The classic date
For those who want to follow in the footsteps of the stars, Leicester Square has hosted many film premieres over the years and while you might not be on the red-carpet guest list, you can catch a film at the cinema for £23 for you both. What’s more, if you happen to be hungry you can grab a meal for £66 (including wine and dessert). While at the end of the night you can head out o the local bars where a pint will typically set you back £4.41, and a cocktail will cost £9. Not too bad for a night on London town.
Paris
Paris, the city of romance. A perfect destination for romance with your partner. This amazing cultural city is one of that just oozes chic, everywhere you go and as it is home to some of the world’s great writers and artists, it really is a little wonder.
Taking a date to new heights
A date to the Eiffel Tower is going to impress any day of the year, but how about making it extra special and heading there on Valentine’s Day. It is worth booking in with the 58 Tour Eiffel on February 14th, which will cost you around €120 (£105.63) for each person. However, if you would like a window seat to really take in those astounding views, then it is worth paying the extra €30 (£26.41).
Paris on a budget
While you might think you need a large budget to take on Paris, you are wrong. This stunning city is home to some of the most beautiful bridges in the world. One bridge, for instance, is the Pont des Arts Bridge, here Parisians take a padlock to the sides and throw the key into the waters below as a symbol of their love. While locks can be bought for a couple of euros each, it is worth noting that Paris officials are asking couples stop locking their padlocks to the bridge and instead take them home as a memory of the day.
The classic date
When the weather is bad, never fear as Paris is full of restaurants for a classic date idea. A meal including wine and dessert in one of the cities quaint restaurants will typically set you back around €65 (£57.21). While a night at the cinema comes in at around €20 (£17.60).
New York
New York, a city that offers something for everyone, from the theatres of Broadway to the neon-lit Times Square and skyscrapers like the Empire State Building. If you can make it on a date here, then you can really make it anywhere.
Flying sky-high
In a position where you can pull out all the stops for your date? And want to offer them something they will most definitely never forget, then how about a private helicopter tour of New York’s famous landmarks. This perhaps once in a life time experience will, however, set you back around $1,500 (£1,184.40). However, this spectacular tour offers unparalleled views of the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty and Central Park, just think about how it could get yours and your dates heart racing!
Walk those famous streets
For those who want to do things a bit more low-key (and hey let’s admit it more pocket-friendly). Then how about taking a twilight walk around Central Park like Audrey Hepburn did in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Or, if you’re feeling peckish, you could go to the restaurant featured in Where Harry Met Sally!
If that’s not enough, take a walk down to the financial district if you and your date want to feel part of the glamour and excitement of the Wolf of Wall Street.
The classic date
Would it be a trip to New York without taking to the movies? The typical cost for a movie for 2 comes in at $28 (£22.11). Which could be followed up with up a meal (including wine and dessert), for which you should expect to pay around $111 (£87.66) for you both. Then, of course, it’s time to finish of the night, with some time in some of Manhattan’s rooftop bars, where a cocktail is likely to set you back $14 (£11.06) and a pint of lager around $7 (£5.53).

It Depends on what youre doing or a number of things. A date can cost a tank of gas… and a packed meal. We have some of our best dates on unplanned routes we take!
We’re both dedicated people watchers, we can be in hysterics for hours making up stories about random strangers!

I’m a Londoner and I personally wouldn’t bother going to the cinemas in Leicester Square because they’re so much pricier there but I guess if you’re new to London it can be quite exciting.
I would be with you on that, if it is somewhere your used to then you know the haunts, but for a special occasion it can be fun to go to such a place.
I want to visit Paris. I have been wanting for years. Beautiful!

I’m sorry I couldn’t help but chuckle whilst reading this our to my fella. Our idea of a date is usually a takeaway at home or a classic Pizza Express haha!… Although I did drop some fairly heavy hints ;).
Haha my other half is the same he loves a good takeaway.

I was just on a date and we both agreed Rome is a place we want to go on a date together for a mini getaway so for me it’s definitely Rome.

I’ve been to Rome quiet a few times but my dream date would be for my other half to whisk me off there, wander around the historical sites with me (the Roman forum is breathtaking, as is the Baths of Caracalla) and then for a delicious bowl of pasta. Now I just need to get him to stumble across your blog ‘accidentally’.
I used to enjoy going cinema and meal but then it was the getting home.. ok I didn’t have a drivers licence or a car so bus was our only way around.
now it’s just easier to order a takeaway and binge watch NetFlix while the girls are asleep.
although the last date night out was the first child free over night when we went to Harry Potter World !!

It is such a nice thing to do if you have the time and money isn’t it.
When the hubs and I get lucky enough to have a date, we totally dont even consider how much it costs, we just go cause when you have 5 kids, dates are rare.
I have to admit me and Ash don’t really but then a lot of the time we don’t spend too much just enjoy time together.
I’ve always dreamed of going to Paris. I’ve heard it’s the most romantic place in the world.

Am a huge fan of fancy dinners, surprise trip overseas just for a date, thanks to my Amore who likes it too. I don’t complain how extravagant he is, but I tell him to keep it slow, coz am not used to too much. 🙂

Oh my! Dates can sure be expensive. Since I am married now, we do not go on as many as we did when we were dating, There are certainly many options out there for going on a date.

I’ve eaten at the 58 Tour Eiffel and loved it. Don’t remember it being so expensive, but it was just myself, and not on Valentine’s Day either! 🙂
They always add something on special days don’t they – it’s a shame but you can see why.
In May my daughter Brooke and her then-boyfriend, now fiancee, got engaged in Italy next to the Trevi Fountain. They each threw in a penny for good luck! The cost of that date? Priceless!

These are all great places to go on a date. My favorite is Paris. I think it’s one of the most romantic places on Earth.

Dating can be really expensive which is why me and my other half enjoy spending time indoors as much as going out. I’ve been to all four of those places and have to admit New York is my favourite x
There is nothing like spending some time at home sometimes that’s for sure.
I think having a date in these key cities is really romantic. It may be a bit costly but it can bring in a lot of fond and sweet memories in the relationship. I would want to visit Paris again this time for a date.
Exactly the memories are priceless, worth saving up to be able to do one or two just once I think.

I’ve honestly forgotten about the price for dates. With being married and having a child, dates often slip my mind!
I would be all for a date night in Paris, how romantic! I enjoy sitting down for a nice meal (that I do not have to prepare or clean up) and just enjoying the time with my husband. He is my favorite person so getting time to talk to him is always special.
It is just the dream really isn’t it, that and Rome I think for me, but I’ve done Paris so Rome to come hopefully.
I wish that I had been able to go on a date with my hubby when we were in NYC. I like to do low key things like take a stroll through a park and get a bite to eat.

Wow, seems kind of expensive! I haven’t been on a date in a long time since I’m married. But when we first got together, we were poor teenagers. I think we mostly went bowling or out for pizza.
Even now as a married couple, we’re boring and would rather see movies or just go out to eat.
It is crazy how much a night out costs now the cinema in particular you pay more than buying it on DVD really lol.

The National History Museum is amazing isn’t it, I used to love the Science Museum as well.
I am not a fan of dinners in fancy restaurants. Sure, it looks classy, you get all dolled up, but then you can’t enjoy the food because you are so conscious not to spill anything. I would rather go on a date where I can roam freely, in comfy clothes (jeans and tee), and do as common people do. Between a fancy restaurant and a diner, I’d go for the diner. Good food, great conversation, cozy atmosphere.
I have to admit I’m often the same, I feel more relaxed in a pub restaurant for instance.
I’m not sure that I could afford to date in this day and age. My husband and I rarely dated due to me having a child when we met. Our dates were very low key!
Nothing wrong with that, sometimes keeping it low key and low budget is the best way to go.

I think that someone who thinks out of the box for a date night is so much nicer than the norm. For me it is more about making it special than spending lots.
I have to agree, you could do anything really as long as it is special for you both.
My favorite date night is picnic and fishing or taking a drive through the woods!

Wow, I never thought it would cost so much to date in a capital. That’s so crazy! Compared with others, London actually sounds cheap, especially if you don’t go to a high end restaurant. The cinema tickets are so expensive everywhere, astonishing.
It is amazing how much difference it can cost, I was astounded by the fact 4 muffins cost 10p more down south haha!

Dating can get super expensive, especially when you toss in cap fare/gas money, tips, flowers, new clothes. The list goes on and on. Of course, being married isn’t cheap either, but at least the dating expectations aren’t there. You picked some gorgeous places for this post. I wouldn’t mind visiting all of them!

It can for sure get crazy $$. Especially if you don’t have any family around to watch your kids. Then you have to add in baby sitter costs on top of the date costs!

Paris is almost the perfect date location I think, it just has that vibe about it.

Here in the US it all depends on what you do, too. You can go somewhere expensive or enjoy a picnic and some people watching in the park to save money!
