10 Blogging Accessories
When it comes to blogging, there are the obvious things you need – a way to access your blogging platform to write your posts is just one, but there are a number of accessories that may help your journey and here are a few of my favourite ones.
1. Camera
To be honest with you, you don’t need a top-of-the-line camera; someone could have a really expensive camera but still take bad photos, as it’s often about technique. So whatever you own, take some time to get to know it and learn how to use it – it might just surprise you.
2. Notepads
I keep them all over the place as I never know when I might get an idea – take this post, I had a whole load of accessories come to mind just as I was off to sleep, so I wrote them down.
3. Business Cards
These can be great to hand out at events and don’t have to cost you a fortune. While you might think of blogging as a purely solitary business, you’d be surprised at how beneficial it can be to get involved in in-person events. This is especially true if your blog is part of a business that also sells products or services. Getting your hands on business cards is just one of the great trade show tips that can draw attention to your blog.
4. Apps
I love the apps I have on both my phone and iPad. They allow me to grab quick access to email and social media, as well as the ability to quickly edit pictures and even write a blog post. To be honest, you can get an app for most things.
5. Ledger
If you are making money from your blog, you need to declare it to HMRC, so a ledger is a must; this could be written or kept on the computer, whatever is easiest for you, plus with Making Tax Digital starting soon, you want to make sure you have the relevant software that easily integrates with their system.
6. Email
Make sure you have an email for your blog; make it separate from your personal one. You could use your blog name, or if you have your own domain, you can use Google Apps to set up one linked to your own blog. Try not to use silly names, though – you want to look professional.
7. Patience
You aren’t going to become a success overnight (ok, it happens to a couple of people, but they are very lucky), your blog posts aren’t going to write themselves and promote themselves either, so you will need patience and dedication to get your blog up, running and out there.
8. Friends
Perhaps this should be friends who understand, other bloggers who know what you mean when you say you feel like tearing your hair out at 3 am because you just can’t finish off that post that has to be done.
9. Help
Don’t struggle on your own to do things; if you are having issues, turn to other bloggers. Facebook has a lot of communities such as UK Bloggers where you can ask questions.
10. Tea and Biscuits
The ever-faithful blogging companion.

Some great tips on here for essentials for a blogger 🙂
This is an excellent list. I use my phone but hope to be able to upgrade to a better camera one day.
I totally agree with the camera aspect. I love blogging and and photos is a big part of it, I can’t post anything without at least showing what I am talking about. Great tips.
Having an email app on my phone is so helpful! I can check my email for my blog when I’m out and about.
My blogging accessory must have is definitely fake flowers, a white background and my camera! My photos are very important to me. Lovely post, thanks for the pointers!
All very important accessories. I find a diary/ calendar is really useful as well to plan when each blog post is going to go live 🙂 x
I haven’t ventured much into apps but that is something I would like to do.
i definitely co-sign everything on this list and would add a blogging mentor!
I’m glad you pointed out that good cameras still take bad photos! People feel so much pressure to have the latest tech these days. Tbh I’d say a notepad and pen are much more important so that you don’t forget all the great ideas you have!

I just bought a new camera for taking my blog photos. Now i am learning how to get those fabulous shots. I love to snack on black licorice when i am working on my blog.
I’m almost good to go, I have all but one thing on the list. I need to get my ledger situation together, then I will be good to go. Great checklist.
Great tips for those looking to blog!

This is a great list. I so agree with number 7. You need a lot of patience.
Very fun post. Patience is a must. I absolutely love blogging but there are moments or even days when things don’t go your way (technology glitzes, mishaps, and such). The best part is getting through those moments and finding a solution to the problem. Another thing learned and something else accomplished. 🙂
I am in dire need of a camera and some patience. lol Just kidding, only need the camera. I am notebook obsessed, and I purchased my business card from Moo because I love their designs.
I love Moo!
Found this a great read lots of great ideas to work on thankyou
I have everything on this list BUT business cards. It’s something I plan on getting this year once I rebrand my website and update the graphics. Super excited!
Good round up of accessories here! Thanks!
Great tips! Oh, how I love notebooks! Need them and want them all!
For me, #10 is coffee and cake.. Definitely a necessity. 😉
I am glad you kept the tea and biscuits 🙂 my blogging essential of an evening when I would rather get an early night instead, great post x
Great tips to have! Especially for those who are starting out and in a panic on where to start. Thanks for the great tips and ideas!
Can never have enough note pads!
These are definite must haves for blogging. Except instead of tea and biscuits, I usually have water and whatever sounds delicious to eat at the time!
Some really usefull info here ..thankyou
I don’t go anywhere without my business cards, never know who you could meet 🙂
LOL patience! Let me tell you, there’s no amount of patience that exists haha! Like Stacie, I have been known to work with wine and sometimes even a Jameson. HA!
I love blogging, so I love this article. Blogging is about more than just sitting down and writing. Although, I sometimes substitute the tea for a stiff shot of something. LOL
great blogging accessories! mine has to be bluetack!! it is soo useful for taking pictures! as everything stays in one place! Great post! xxx
My notepads and snacks are crucial!!
Jabeen x
I would love to start a blog but not sure I have the confidence! Thank you so much for all of the info!
All of these accessories are necessary I would also a good phone. Sometimes my phone acts up and I loss tons of stuff on there. Ugh
With the exception of a ledger, I have all of the above mentioned blogging accessories. My favorite are Tea and Biscuits.
I was just thinking of a similar list… things that all bloggers need. Number 10 is a definite 🙂
Those are all really great tips especially that one with the email. I remember when I first started blogging I used my personal email and it got swamped. Now I have one that is just blog related and it’s so much easier sorting through what I want and don’t.
I don’t have business cards and I have been asked for them more than once. I think it’s something I will invest in… when you meet sponsors, it doesn’t hurt to have a card to give them to put on file. 🙂
You are so right, these are necessities when you are a blogger. I need to purchase a good camera.
Good comprehensive list of what you need. A good camera is next on my list for my blog.
These are great tips thank you Sarah x
I use all of these except tea and biscuits ~ more like coffee and crackers. 🙂 I like a good radio station and/or podcast, depending on what I’m working on.
Friends and help are just such a cornerstone of blogging, just as a computer! I need to get a ledger.
great ideas! I have them all. except for the tea and biscuits 🙂
These are all great ideas. I really like the idea of a ledger!
These all sound like necessary blogging accessories. Sometimes after I talk to my sister I think she would add wine to the list.
Business cards! What a fantastic idea! I really need to get my buns in gear and whip some up! I’ve been meaning to for over a year now!
All of these are musts. Especially the tea and biscuits!
Having an email app on my phone is so helpful! I can check my email for my blog when I’m out and about.
One you forgot —- TIME! With 5 kids it is almost impossible!
I just got an amazing new camera at Christmas. I haven’t used it nearly enough.
Yep, these are all very important accessories. I would love to join you for tea and biscuits one day!
I don’t know if I could have made it through without bloggy friends. Everything changes so often that I need people to bounce things off of.
