Philips – Perfectcare Elite Steam Generator Iron: Review
Way back when, before my Fibromyalgia days, ironing was one of the chores I wasn’t bothered about, I would stick something good on the TV and iron away, meaning it all seemed to be over and done in no time, pretty painlessly. However I used to get so annoyed by the fact there was things you couldn’t iron and there was nothing worse than running out of water part way through.
So when I was offered the chance to put a Philips PerfectCare Elite to the test, while I couldn’t do it myself, I knew just the woman to give a try – someone who has been ironing since before I was born – my Mum.
The Perfectcare Elite Steam Generator Iron isn’t small, after all you are looking at it having a 1.8l detachable water tank to help generate all that steam, so the box it arrives in was a bit of a shock, but it is all worth it, so don’t worry.
Thankfully it comes complete with an easy to follow instruction booklet, which means if you aren’t sure how to use such an iron, you won’t have to worry too much when it comes to getting to grips with the basics.
My parents, prior to owning this iron, had an ordinary small ironing board and this was perhaps the only issue they found with this iron as it was too large to place onto the ironing board itself and as such, they needed to iron close to a table or sideboard to hold the tank and iron.
The Iron is actually really simple to use, the tank comes out of the base and once filled it is easy to slip back into place and can be refilled while in use; using just ordinary tap water. Surprisingly it takes just a couple of minutes to heat up and once in use can be set to ECO or Turbo steam, with Eco offering a more energy efficient setting, by producing less steam.
I was surprised by how light the iron itself actually is and this, teamed with the fact it has a very smooth sole plate, it so easily glides across any fabric. The iron itself doesn’t have a temperature control; however you can control the steam, by the trigger on the handle.
The Philips Perfectcare Elite, uses “OptimalTEMP Technology”, which is such an innovative invention, it allows you to iron any fabric at any time. So you can easily go from ironing jeans to silk and then back to jeans and the iron would work perfectly for each one, so no more having to section out your ironing into piles dependent on fabric type.
We tested out the OptimalTEMP Technology on a brand new top and with bated breath, we were amazed as it glided across the two tone fabric from a sheer panel to one which had a slightly velveteen feel to it. Leaving it burn free and pressed to perfection.
The Perfectcare Elite Steam Generator Iron has really changed the way ironing is done at my parents and been a huge hit, my Dad is often now found iron in hand, clearing the pile and they have even shelled out on ironing board to go with the iron. I don’t mind ironing, as you say if something good can be placed on and I can get on with it. This looks a brilliant Iron, so much better then the one we own.

Darn it, why didn’t I found this before? I also don’t mind ironing, there’s something about it that’s somewhat soothing and putting something good on TV definitely helps and making it less laborious lol.

I would love to try that. We have a very small iron here and it takes long to iron a piece of clothing.
I’m a bit strange because I LOVE to iron. Everything looks so much better after it’s ironed, especially all of my linens. This looks like a really good and reliable steam iron.
When I worked outside the home I had to iron just about every piece of work clothing I had. This one sounds really cool, but I don’t iron too much these days.

Oh I need this! This is a really must in my house , make ironing a bit quicker actaully my iron is horrible it pretty much spits and drenches the clothes. grr

That’s one great iron but I’m looking at the price tag and have to say that is one expensive iron as well. I can’t tell the last time I even used an iron though, so won’t really need one.
Now THAT’S an iron! I think this would be fantastic for someone who does a lot of ironing. I only iron about twice a year so it wouldn’t be a good fit for me.

My dad takes charge at home when it comes to ironing our clothes because all of us are busy at work the whole day. I think he will love the Philips Perfectcare Elite because it’s pretty cool. Some materials are too delicate and it takes so much effort to carefully iron them. With the help of the OptimalTEMP Technology, he would not have a hard time.

Looks like a nice iron. I too remember the afternoons I spent turning on the TV, watching Golden Girls, and doing the ironing.
That was back when my husband had a corporate job and his shirts had to look good. I hated it though, and I am thankful my ironing days are over.

Technology has caught up with the iron! I really like how easy this to use this is and might actually consider investing in one as I don’t have an iron, but I sure do have some seriously wrinkled clothes! lol

We have an endless supply of cheap irons that work when they want, some better than others. Maybe its time ti upgrade and just go with what works! Thanks for sharing!
I try to avoid ironing at all costs LOL. The iron I have now is probably 15 years old and I think it may have been used a total of 10 times. We can probably use one that actually steams for my husband suits.
My husband has a couple of shirts that I just cannot iron. Our iron has seen better days so I bet this would help.
Looks like a great iron, but I rarely iron clothes anymore, if something looks like it will need a lot of ironing I just dry clean it 🙁
