EarthBits Eco-Friendly Shopping: Review
I’m slowly trying to be more eco-friendly when it comes to shopping. I am a long way from perfect, we still throw away a lot. However, a start has to be better than not trying at all.
Recently I was contacted by EarthBits, they are a company who strive to help people work towards zero waste.
As it was something I had been thinking more about, and trying to work into my life I decided I would love to try some different items from across their range.
Who are EarthBits?
Run by Fran and Jason, with I’m sure a helping hand from little S. EarthBits came about due to the fact as a family they are trying to be as plastic-free as possible.
Of course, it is a challenge, so they decided to bring together their experience to help make it just a little easier for people to shop plastic-free.
They thoroughly vet all of their suppliers, many of whom are locally based. They look at the sustainability of each product, alongside them being durable and high quality.
All of their packaging is non-plastic and fully recyclable.

Coconut Shell Soap Dish.
Since I’ve been using long-handled loofas to help me wash, I’ve found that bars of soap work well and seem less wasteful than shower gel.
So it had been on my mind to get a soap dish for the shower.
This one, in particular, has been made from natural coconut shells and while it is fully biodegradable and eco-friendly it is going to last you a long time before you need a new one.
For me, I love something that looks a bit different. So, the shape alongside the grain of the coconut shell soap dish really spoke to me.
Coming in a flower shape with drain holes to the centre and carved petals around the outside. This is a really pretty, very functional and perfect plastic-free addition to any bathroom.

Japanese-Style Wooden Tea Cup.
It is no secret I love a good cup of tea. As such, I was interested in the idea of a wooden teacup. Using the ideas of an original Japenese tea set, where loose tea is carefully brewed in wooden vessels. This cup is perfect for anyone who loves a warm drink.
Wood is a natural insulator so there’s no need to worry about your drink getting cold. While the cup itself won’t get too hot to handle either.
In fact, there is something quite calming about starting off the day with a cup of tea made in this.
While if you use loose leaf tea, you are working towards being, even more, plastic-free too!
The Japanese-Style Wooden Tea Cup comes in at £7.35.
Natural Loofah.
This natural loofah offers a vegan-friendly alternative to sea sponges. It is made from a plant, which grows looking much like a bulbous cucumber, hanging down from its vines.
Before first use, you need to give this loofah a good soak – for about 15 minutes in warm water. Then you are ready to go.
Offering a natural and non-course exfoliation, it is also good for your circulation, helping to get the blood flowing through your body.
What’s more the natural loofah dried in minutes, meaning it is less of a bacteria growth zone and when you are finished with it? Well, it is completely compostable, so just throw it in your compost bin, or bury it.

Reusable Make-Up Removal Rounds.
I’ll be honest, the thing that got me thinking about how much plastic I use is cotton rounds. I use anywhere from 4 up every day and that isn’t good.
So I started looking into alternatives and that’s where I came across reusable makeup rounds. I have a small collection going on and I’m looking to get enough to keep me going for a couple of weeks at a time.
It is worth noting you can’t just throw these in with your towels to wash them, as you are going to want to wash on 30.
The pads are made from a mix of cotton and bamboo, meaning they are soft to use and without all the padding of cotton wool you might just find your cleanser goes further.
From the website these are available in two different kinds, the ones pictured are of course a mix of cotton and bamboo. While a white stitched alternative can be bought which is softer so perfect for around the eyes and made simply from bamboo.
Worried about what happens at the end of their life? Well, don’t as they are compostable.

My Thoughts on EarthBits.
I really like how simple and easy to use the EarthBits website is. They have laid out different categories and collections, while even letting you shop by price. Making it so simple for anyone to take their first step to reduce plastic in their home.
Personally I am glad to have some more ideas for things to use around the home to make it a little more plastic-free and will be heading back to EarthBits for more buys as I think my next move might be to go to shampoo and conditioner bars.

I love the look of the coconut soap tray! It is very distinctive!
It’s great to find another company helping us to do our part to help the environment. I love the designs of some of the stuff, very simple and Japanese like.
These are some nice alternatives to make an easy swap. I really like the wooden tea cups. I’ve never seen them before. This would be something I would use. I usually travel with a bar of soap, but haven’t used one at home in ages. That’s also something I am going to consider doing (after using my many bottles of shower gel). Thank you for introducing me to some great ideas for being a better consumer.
The coconut soap dish is really pretty. We use bar soap and I’ve never found a soap dish I like so it just sits in a plastic Tupperware box 😅 but I’m off to look!

The make up remover pads look good. I was using wipes but have swapped them out as they are so bad for the environment, but these look even better than using cotton wool
They are really good so easy to wash as well. I have two tubs in the bathroom now one for clean and one for dirty 🙂

Earth Bits sounds like a great source for environmentally friendly goods! I’ve been trying to gradually transition to more environmentally friendly home goods – using things like reusable versions of consumables, less plastic and buying more second hand. So far it’s a lot easier than I thought it would be (other than plastic, supermarket food comes in so much packaging!!) but I am still hunting of a pretty soap dish and this post has given me some great ideas!

I bet my daughter would love to try the loofah. And when I used to wear makeup, the reusable makeup removal pads would have been wonderful!
I just use them for cleanser and toner – I don’t wear make up that often myself 🙂
