5 Fun Summer Projects for The Kids

Summer is right around the corner, bringing with it bright sunshine and long days. This is the perfect time to get your kids outside and in the fresh, clean air. If you’re racking your brain for ideas to keep your kids busy this summer, then you’ve come to the right place. We’ve rounded our top 5 favourite projects for kids in the hottest months of the year. Kids need to be kept entertained and what better way to do that than to have them soak up some vitamin D outdoors.

Sponge Water Bombs

Sponge water bombs are tons of fun for the kids on a hot day. Simply cut pieces of brightly coloured foam into strips and band them together tightly with string or an elastic band. These water bombs are great for soaking up water and throwing them around in your gorgeous backyard. Sponge bombs are like the old-school water balloons but they are reusable and easier to clean up afterwards.

Sidewalk Painting

For generations, children have loved painting things that they ordinarily shouldn’t but these days, with the invention of washable paint, their surface options are almost endless. Let them doodle and paint on the sidewalks with this special paint, then you can simply rinse it off when they’re done. As a bonus tip – take photos of their masterpieces so you can print out and frame your favourite ones. You can also get these printed versions made into a coffee table book for you to look back on with them one day when they’re older.

Egg Carton Boats

Who doesn’t remember racing egg cartons when they were younger? This simple DIY project is as easy as it is fun they don’t require a lot of materials to make. All you’ll need is empty egg cartons, straws, and paper. Follow this easy guide for making your own and your kids will be racing theirs in the swimming pool in no time. The Styrofoam egg cartons work the best for this project but the cardboard ones will work too, just not quite as well.

Lemonade Stand

Making the cutest lemonade stand for your kids doesn’t have to fill you with fear and dread. With a few brightly coloured pallet boxes stacked together, you can glue yours together in no time. Look online for lovely ideas for making your kids their lemonade stands, there are loads of templates and designs available – from the simplest design right the way through to the more complicated ones for the over-achievers amongst us.

Vegetable Garden

Spring and summer are the best seasons to plant fresh fruit and veggies. Fruit trees tend to take up more space and are more of a long-term commitment so if you’re not ready for that then consider planting a vegetable garden instead. All you need to do is dedicate a portion of your backyard to your new veggie patch and then get to planting. A vegetable garden will require regular maintenance which makes this a great opportunity for teaching your kids how to be responsible.
