Travel: Why it is Good for your Health and Wellbeing
Exercise, spinach and sleep, we all know that these things are good for your health. But, have you ever considered that travel is also good for you? Physically, mentally and emotionally, travelling can offer many benefits; benefits for your mind body and soul.
Many people feel travel is a luxury, a reward, a treat, but in actual fact, it’s something that can help us manage and deal with day to day life. When you pack your bags and go off on an adventure, it’s the only time you really and truly leave everything behind, all the stress, responsibility and things that get you down.
It gives you a chance to put all of your problems into perspective, clear your mind and burn out is much less likely to happen. If that’s not enough, here are some more reasons why you should travel.
Keeps you fit
When you travel, you are constantly on the go, there’s always something to do, places to go and things to see. Constant movement means exercise, not only will this help you to lose weight, it also promotes a healthy heart and happier outlook on life.
Any kind of exercise releases endorphins – the happy hormone. You’ll find your stress levels reducing, a lower risk of high cholesterol and lower blood pressure. You don’t even have to go far to reap this benefit, you don’t even have to leave the country you live in; you just have to find a new part of it to explore.
Challenges your brain
It’s easy to forget, but your brain is a muscle, a muscle that also needs strengthening and challenging. While it doesn’t work exactly the same as the other muscles in your body, it can still be developed and improved.
The good news is, travelling does this, and you are put in new situations, new environments and have to challenge yourself daily: all aspects that work the brain. Learning new cultures, learning about the history of the place you are visiting and processing new information is all part of travel and a great way to exercise the brain.
Releases stress
Getting away to travel takes you away from the stresses of everyday life. It’s a chance to take your mind away from work, family life and any other problems. If you’re on the road and consistently moving and doing, your mind is preoccupied. When you do have your quiet times, it gives you a chance to think about your problems with a completely clear mind and put things into perspective.
More often than not, you’ll find you return with a much clearer outlook on life and may even be able to resolve some of your issues after careful consideration while you were away. Reducing stress also reduces health complications and creates a good hormonal balance.
Teaches culture
Visiting a new place teaches you all about a new culture and way of life. It may be that it helps you to appreciate what you have a lot more and even encourage you to do selfless acts like donating to charity or offer help to friends and family a lot more. Experiencing how other people live isn’t just about developing new social thoughts and beliefs; it’s also about witnessing different types of lifestyles.
This opportunity to experience new culture also supports your mental and emotional health; it can make you feel a lot better about life and everything you have. You may even find you feel more in control and happier just being you.
Where will you travel first?
Travelling really is one of the best things you can do to improve your outlook on life, your wellbeing and your stress levels, so where will you travel first? Be sure to get in plenty of activity, as well as time to sit back and relax.

I agree, travelling is so good for your health and wellbeing. It can be very challenging which is good for you and if you’re constantly exploring then you are always on the move and doing more exercise! x
It is such a good thing isn’t it – I wish I could get out there and travel more for sure.
I love to travel but it’s something we don’t do as much as I would like! This is something I want to change!
I hope you manage to get to travel more in the coming year.

*Fingers crossed* you will be travelling all over in 2018.
Me and my husband loves travelling and I am very excited to travel with my newborn son too! Excited for our cruise.
I have found travel to be the best thing to introduce into my activities. I like breaking the everyday cycle, it gives me something to look forward to and stop me feeling boxed in my routine.
In an ideal world I would love to travel as often as I could afford to but my job restricts that as there is not enough holiday allowance so I have to limit holiday to one annual one a couple of weekend breaks. I am looking forward to going to Goa next year for my nephews wedding.
I always find travelling helps with stress, especially the kind of stress that’s in the back of your mind all the time. It’s always good to explore and take in something new.
Travelling always helps me relieve stress. Especially when it’s the kind of stress that’s always in the back of my mind. It’s always good to explore and take in something new and different.
This is all so true and I’d never really thought about it before! We are planning on travelling a lot more in the next few years which is good for more than one reason I can see now!
At my age I like to travel in comfort so whilst I agree with you, I like to go places where my creature comforts are guaranteed!
I love to travel but I don’t get to do it as much as I wish I could x
I love travelling and the feeling that I have when exploring a new place. It never feels like real exercise when you’re finding new adventures 🙂
Definitely, the best way to learn about the world and different cultures is to visit them.

I totally agree with this post! I started traveling with a friend and we’ve done Paris, Prague,Budapest, Warsaw and Ljubljana so far. We always take walking tours when there and learn as much as we can. I have found a new love for having adventures
Oh wow you have been to some amazing places, I hope you have many adventures to come too!
I do find that I walk a lot more when I am away as you want to explore loads, so this is always good. And it’s very relaxing to be away from the 24/7 computer life too x
We love to travel, so much insight, knowledge and it just filled up the soul with good energy and life. Breaks the monotony at home too to be somewhere else doing something different.
I love travelling and only wish I had enough money to do it more. I always get more exercise when I am holiday too!!
I love travelling, but the depression and anxiety always follows me wherever I go, unfortunately! However, my partner totally winds down and can’t even add up anymore, which he does every day!
I love traveling everywhere xx
I love going travelling on adventures and do believe it can help your whole health and fitness more important your brain to relax.
I love the feeling that travelling gives me. I go away and leave all my stresses at home 🙂 it’s such a fab way o escape homelife and just concentrate on you which I know loads of us don’t do enough. I travelled loads as a child with my parents and now we are trying to do the same with our so they can experience some wonderful things as well.
Yesss! It’s opened my mind massively. I wish I travelled more from a young age properly. I used to visit all inclusive resorts and hardly explore the surrounding areas! I think nowadays it’s all about learning the culture and immersing into different countries lifestyles for sure. I’m trying to massively promote that for sure.
