Christmas Past and Present with John Lewis
It seems like a distant memory, those days when I would run down the stairs excited to see what toys Santa had left me and while it is only September this is the time of year when the latest toy launches are happening in the shops. So as always I will be trying to bring you some of the newest and greatest ideas for all the family in the lead up to the big day.
First up I have something which brings back some memories that’s for sure. However as the years have gone by, this toy that has been around for many years as also gone through some advances itself, making it slightly different from the Furby I remember.
Back when I was younger, Furby’s were the toy that drove everyone a little insane, no matter if you loved them or hated them. They did things like turn evil if you didn’t give them enough love and oh the nights when you would get woken up by them chatting away to themselves.
These days, while they still love to chat away – often in their own language; the Furby Connect, has thankfully, made it so night time mutterings should be over, thanks to the Furby sleep mask. Just slip it over your Furby’s eyes when night time comes around and he will soon be snoring away with you.
The actual Furby itself has also had a bit of an upgrade with its wiggling ears, LED lit antenna and animated eyes, that show over 150 different animations.
What’s more the Furby Connect connects to your smart phone or tablet, allowing the Furby owner to watch videos with their Furby and feed it, as well as, playing virtual games with Furblings.
So how can you buy a lucky recipient this state of the art Furby Connect? Well they are on sale now, and available from from John Lewis (keep an eye on their price promise as they are frequently matching prices, to get you the best deal).
Do you have any fond memories of the Furby or is it something you would buy your child now?

I never had one but I would get one for eva
I had a Furby and now my nieces want their own. I love how so many of the things I grew up with are popular again.
It is so cool isn’t it – love that things do come back into style and are loved by a new generation 🙂 X
i would love to have a furby before too! i rmember i keep on telling my daughter that maybe she wants a furby instead of build a bear hahah
Awe this brings back memories! I remember those cute Furby originals when I was younger. The were on every kid’s list. I had no idea about Furby connect until now though.
Haha I know everyone wanted or had one of them didn’t they haha! I think they drove a lot of people up the wall as well :’) x
I actually didn’t have a Furby but my so loves all things furry so might be a good one for my son. His favorite is blue so this might be a good one.
Yes why not and you can put them to sleep now as well so it’s all the better 😉 lol x
I do not remember the furby toy but looks like such a fun little gadget. Love that you can connect it to smartphones!
i remember my little brother had a Furby and it scared me so much! It was creepy and would talk when i was not expecting it to! My daughter wanted me to buy one a few years ago and I said NO!
Haha they do have that creepy side almost like they know you are there 😉 x
It’s been a while since I’ve seen toys like this! Furby definitely brings back memories! I’m sure lots of kids would be delighted to receive this.
Its crazy isn’t it the memories a toy can bring back that you thought were long forgotten. x
This reminds me so much of that fluffy toy when I was a kid. Thanks for bringing back the time!
The memories they bring back hey – they have come so far but still the same little critter 😉 x
Oh, Furby! I used to have that when I was young, Looks so lovely!
Hahah it is amazing how many people did and how they are coming back. x
I remember when Furby’s came out!!! It is amazing how some things come back around again years later.
It is crazy isn’t it – I don’t think I ever thought they would come back! x
Loved this blog..you brought back really fond memories of my Furby keeping dad awake after I hid it in mum & dad’s wardrobe when I was younger…he thought we had a poltergeist 😉
Haha that is amazing – I bet it was an interesting night for you all! x
HA! the Furbys – my daughters wanted them so much one year for the holiday s- which I obliged – THEN – then – the chattering away at night – my daughters go so angry at their Furbys – they were banished to the basement!
Haha that is amazing – I can’t imagine how many get sent away for being too noisy! x
Furbies are terrifying! I was so scared of them as a kid hahah
Haha I think a few people are scared of them – they are very odd looking. x
i think i might still have my old furbie somewhere… the hardest part was they just wouldn’t stop talking or making some kind of noise! happy to see they are back but new and improved.
Hahah I think that was the worst part for everyone once they started oh dear! x
I still can’t believe that they brought Feerbies back! My memories with them is them freaking my mom out – she really hated them with a passion! LOL
Hahah my parents weren’t fans either, it is strange how things come around again sometimes. x
I’m liking that they’re incorporating new technology into these Furbies. We did have first generation Furbies and they were cute.
It is amazing to see how everything advances over the years I think how things grow. x
Oh I would love to get this for my grandson! He loves animals and I am sure he would have so much fun with Furby Connect. Makes me excited imagining how he would giggle when Furby wiggles his ears.
Haha I bet it is fun to watch – I would love to see one of these in action I have to admit. x
Furby! Love that. With the new Trolls movie coming out, I am trying to find all my other vintage toys.
Oh gosh I had forgotten about the Trolls movie cannot wait to see that. x
I had a Furby growing up and I was both in love with it and afraid of it (especially when it randomly started talking on its own!). It’s crazy to think that kids today have the same/similar toys as me growing up. I think the Chewbacca Furby they released last year was so adorable.
It is amazing how it all seems to come back around and how big even vintage toys are these days. x
Oh my goodness, Furbys! How I miss those little creatures!
I remember Furbys! I love that they now come with a sleep mask so they won’t wake you up in the middle of the night.
IT is a brilliant isn’t it – I think the most annoying part had to be the middle of the night chats. x
Furby toys were awesome, I used to love them! I think I still have one hahaha.
Cannot even believe that Christmas has been mentioned yet. I am so not ready for this holiday season. I remember for beef when I was a kid to I never had one though. Nowadays with the apps and how everything is so technology-based I bet my son would love this toy.
I do not remember the furby toy but I do remember running down the steps to see what Santa left me under the tree. Those were some of my favorite childhood moments.
The Furby looks like such a fun little gadget. This would make a perfect holiday gift for my kids. I love that you can connect it to smartphones for even more interactivity.
Furbys are as cute as buttons. I remember collecting them when they were all the rage many years ago. I’m glad to see that they still are.
It is amazing how things go round in a circle isn’t it – old trends coming back into fashion. x
I remember the first Furby craze! I was too old to want one, but one of my cousin’s sons got one and brought it to Christmas. They were certainly unique but a bit creepy too lol.
Haha yeah they definitely had that creepy edge to them, I think they look a lot better now 🙂 X
I had a Furby as a kid! I can’t believe they brought them back. I always kind of likened mine to a gremlin though, it was slightly creepy 🙂 the newer ones look much nicer!
Haha it is amazing the things that do come back – they seem to be really popular this time around as well. x
I used to love Furby! But, haven’t heard of Furby connect. Will need to look into them more. Thanks for sharing!
Haha they were definitely something else 😉 it is amazing how far they have come on. x
Adore John Lewis
My neice wants one of these for Christmas
John Lewis are great aren’t they – fingers cross your niece gets one 🙂 x
we still have an original Furby, it was my eldest daughter’s. My younger girls have not shown any interest yet.
Oh wow – it is amazing how things come around, perhaps they will want one, one day and you could have a Furby family. x
My kids had Furby when they were little and we were just talking about this the other day. I think the old ones may be hiding up in the attic somewhere. My grandkids would love the new and improved Furby.
It would be interesting to see a new one by an old one I think, really see the differences. x
As a child I always wanted a Furby and never got one….
When they made a big come back a few years ago I was going to get my girls one but they didn’t seem that bothered. Hmmf.
I am quite tempted to say stuff it and just buy myself one. lol x
Yes get yourself one – no reason not to – embrace the Furby! x
I remember the original Furby but really did not know much about the Furby connect, but it does sound interesting! We do not have a John Lewis store around us, so this sounds great!
I have to admit we have one quite close but I still offer a lot online, you can click and collect at their stores or Waitrose as well which is really useful. x
Oh I totally agree they have become a huge part of the Christmas season and designed to be very shareable on social media. But John Lewis have set the bar so high, particularly for themselves, that the standard is slipping!
