Have you heard of Buddy Box?
I don’t remember a life before having mental health problems, the sporadic bits of my childhood I haven’t forgotten are often marred by the fact my thinking was way off base even back then. I don’t know when it started, perhaps it was a compound of different things which caused a larger issue from a teacher who bullied me, to moving any from an environment I felt secure in and was surrounded by friends, to one where I was an outsider, and didn’t dress or speak “right”.
These days, I find life hard I’ll admit, I don’t cope with it at all and can often feel that dark cloud looming, however blogging and being around those I love helps and not long ago I was contacted by the people over at Blurt, about their new monthly subscription Buddy Box.
This box is actually June’s and I was sent it around mid to late July, just in time for everything to go wrong from my health to the blog being hacked, so I’m late blogging this and for that I am very sorry – please forgive.
The box arrived on a day I felt awful, honestly I wanted to curl up and just give up and well Blurt describe it as a Hug in a box and I admit I did cry when I opened it but it was happy tears, I honestly felt like someone had reached out and said – we know times get rubbish but we’re in this together, to me, which was just what I needed at that moment.
So what was in Buddy Box?
Items included in this month’s subscription box:
Clipper Organic Chamomile Infusion RRP £2.53
Anatomicals Cruisin’ for a Snoozin’ RRP £3.49
Grace and Favour Lavender Bag RRP £4.50
The Mindfulness Colouring Book: Anti-stress art therapy for busy people RRP £7.99
Dotcomgiftshop 12 Mini Colouring Pencils RRP £1.50
I am going to completely admit now that more often than not when it comes to how I personally look at a box, a lot has to do with value and a one off subscription costs £21.50 including postage, (if you buy a longer subscription you pay less) and the RRP of the items in this box come to £20.01 so including postage and packaging you are getting just over your moneys worth. BUT for this box, to me at least, isn’t about that, it is more about what it symbolises than the actual value, to me this box has been carefully curated to include things that can help when you are feeling low and to me that is worth more than anything.
Personally I will definitely be signing up to this in the foreseeable future and if you fancy joining me with a subscription all you need to do is pop over to the website and sign on up you can even open a subscription for a friend (or choose to send them a one off box) if you do this you can enter a message for them so they know who it’s from or leave that area blank if you want to be anonymous.
However if the £21.50 price tag is a bit much for you – then check out the newly launched Buddy Box Light which can be brought as a one off or as a monthly subscription and costs just £12.
What do you think of Buddy Box, can see yourself signing up?

This would be an absolutely brilliant gift to subscribe to for someone else. I know lots of people who struggle with mental health problems and I always try very hard to be a supportive friend to them. I can really see huge benefits to someone who needs a spot of love receiving something like this in the post.
Wow this sounds lovely. I would get this for myself AND for someone in need of cheering up. Hope you’re feeling better though xx
This reminds me of one occasion when a lovely friend, who knew I was going through a tough time at that point, sent me an ’emergency parcel’ of small treats to cheer me up. It was much appreciated!
I am always dubious of subscription boxes as I worry about what they will contain. I would have loved this though as I am obsessed with adult colouring books! xx
I’m not a fan of subscription boxes but that does look like a lovely box to receive when your feeling at a low ebb.
Sounds amazing -will definitely be signing up! x
Yeah i see that although it is expensive, it’s lovely to have it – like a rescue box – particularly when you’re unlikely to have those kind of items in on a daily basis!
Love the idea of a Buddy box
What a thoughtful box! Sounds like it came at just the right time for you too. Hope you’re feeling better now x
I don’t do these subscription type things but it does look like something I’d enjoy receiving 🙂
Such a lovely box, I would have been the same receiving this. I wish I had more money as there as so many nice sub boxes I’d love to have. There’s nothing like getting surprise mail through the post to cheer you up 🙂
Ah what a sweet idea and great that it came at a time when you needed it
This is amazing something a lot of people could find really useful xx
Like you, I’ve had mental health problems as long as I can remember, it’s not nice and anything that can cheer us up would be great!
I do knitting and crochet swaps and they always make me feel better. Someone actually sent me the mindfulness colouring book the other day as part of a swap. X
This is brilliant! I’m definitely going to look in to getting these, especially for my mamma who is permanently bed ridden this would absolutely make her smile. Thank you for letting us know about this great find! X
I have never heard of the Buddy Box before, but it looks and sounds like a great idea x
I wish I was still in the UK. I would def sign up for it. I love the colouring book.
I am yet to try one of these box ideas. This looks great though and I’m glad this turned up to cheer you up a bit.
