Vax Air Cordless: Review

I am really fussy when it comes to vacuums; I have issues with weight and manoeuvring so to some degree I need a vacuum to work with me, since we moved to the new place I’ve used a smaller sized ball vacuum which has worked well. But to be honest with you, I find vacuuming very tiring if and when I manage to do it myself (thank goodness for Ash), quite often by the time I’ve unravelled the cable I’m down by half my energy reserves so it’s very much a do what I can job, then collapse and try and recoil the cable, ready for it to be put away.

Earlier in the year, I got to try out a handheld vacuum which is probably one of the most used gadgets in the home, so I was really intrigued by the idea of a cordless full-sized vacuum.

Let’s get the complete ‘doh’ moment out of the way first, when my Vax arrived I put it together easily, set a battery to charge and came back to it a while later to give it a whirl – popped the battery in, turned it on and nothing. I took it all apart in case I had made an error, put it back together, put the battery back in and still nothing. About an hour later I decided to wipe the battery and Vax connection gently with a cloth and would you believe it, it worked! Yes, it was obviously covered in factory dust – who would have thought it!

Anyway, after that rather embarrassing start to testing the Vax was over I tried to get down to business, by try – my Dad stole it and whenever I went over to their house to try and find it, it had been moved to a new hiding spot, in fact apparently my Dad has become quite the king of hoovering, thanks to this Vax.

Thankfully I managed to give this a whirl myself at times as well as getting feedback from my parents on what they thought. My Mum actually owns a Vax already and without going into too much detail the Air Cordless made her rethink her opinion and decide she would definitely try them again.

In my time I have used either full-sized hard to move vacuums or the smaller one which very quickly fills up and in doing so adds to the workload. So I really didn’t think it would be possible to make something with the benefits of both. Yet I was proven wrong.

The main weight of this Vax comes from the battery, yet even once it is fitted it still weighs under 5lbs. It moves well, with it twisting and swivelling from just above the base allowing you to round corners and manoeuvre around objects with ease.

When it comes to the pickup test, well that has got to be done with dog fur, Sally likes to spread it liberally everywhere and a good hoover will sort it with ease, a not so good one – well it doesn’t touch it. So it was with trepidation we watch and waited as it was passed over Sallified areas, but we need not have worried as it was with ease it sucked it up and stowed it away to later be binned (it also worked wonders on the sequins from the pictures – making it fantastic for Christmas disasters as well).

I haven’t used the hose attachment too much, but it did work wonders when I quickly needed to give the car a hoover out before it went to the garage and spared so much of the faffing around of trying to find an extension lead and somewhere to plug that lead-in, it just picked it up, run it outside and off you go.

It’s also so easy to attach the hose – all you need to do is detach the handle, remove the hose from the base of the hoover clip them together and you’re ready to go.

Overall the size of the Vax Air Cordless isn’t too large and can neatly fit into a corner for storage as it doesn’t have any odd-shaped parts, which could stick out at odd angles. It is also really easy to clean when needed, with the main canister coming off with a click and the filter completely reusable it just needs rinsing out on a regular basis.

The one downside I’ve come across so far is it arrives with two attachments; however there is only room for storing one on the hoover meaning, you can’t have the other close at hand.

At the moment I can’t comment on battery durability which I think will be a big thing with this vacuum, however, it does give around the advertised 50 minutes run time and with you being supplied with two, you really are never going to have a problem with having no usable battery.

Both I and my parents agree that the Vax Air Cordless exceeds our expectations, while you aren’t going to get the huge suction power of a very powerful corded device, for everyday use this offers you all the power you would need and it certainly scores a thumbs up in this family.
