Patchwork Pâté – Quiet Night In: Review

Patchwork Pâté is an amazing company, they were started up by Margaret Carter, with £9 from her housekeeping, no training and lots of talent in 1982. She started by selling her pâté in nearby Llangollen and the business slowly expanded, by 1987 she had to move from her kitchen to a purpose built building and despite its larger scale today, even now everything is handmade in small batches without the use artificial colouring, additives or preservatives using Margaret’s original recipes.

I was lucky enough to be offered a Quiet Night Hamper from Patchwork Pâté and I of course decided to make mine with my Dad in mind, as the great thing about these hampers is, you get a choice of the flavour of items added.

With the Quite Night In hamper you get 4 items a choice of pâté, chutney or relish, a pack spelt fingers and a bottle of beer. Each of the food items have around 5 or 7 items to choose from, while there are around 15 bottles of beer on the list. For my Dad’s hamper I decided to pop in.

Pâté: Pâté Iau Cyw Iar Afalau a Seidr Cymraeg.
This is a Chicken Liver Pâté with Apple and Welsh Cider, may of the ingredients used in this pâté are from Wales including Rosie’s Triple D cider from Llandegla and Blodyn Aur Rapeseed Oil  which is harvested throughout North Wales and pressed near Ruthin and was realised just in time for St Davids day.

Chutney: Apple Chutney with Hobgoblin Ale and a pinch of Ginger.
This apple chutney features a dash of Wychwoods Hobgoblin Ale (which just so happens to be one my Dad’s favourites) and a pinch of ginger.

Spelt Organic Oat Fingers.
This Spelt Oat Fingers are made with Organic Spelt from Sharpham Park and the finest of Scots Oats, perfect for being the spelt for your pâté offering a rich buttery, melt in your mouth oat finger.  

Stonehouse Brewery Cambrian Gold.
This is a deep golden fruity beer, with a subtle dry finish, just perfect for washing down that pâté on spelt. 

As I said at the start of this post the great thing about this hamper is you really can personalise it to match your Dad, as you might have guessed my Dad just so happens to be a bit of a beer fan and while he isn’t a big drinker he does love trying different speciality ales from around the country. I used that love when I was deciding what to put in his hamper and with such the variety of flavours in the pâté and chutney I decided the plain spelt organic oak fingers would go down best. If of course you aren’t 100% sure what your Dad would like best you could always ask your Mum for a helping hand as well.

My Dad tucked into this hamper with the help of my Mum and they both found it to be a delicious hamper, with the chutney being some of the nicest they have even eaten, while all products were definitely made to a high quality. They both thought it was a fantastic idea that could pick and choose the content.

The price of a Quiet Night In hamper cleverly depends on the content as you pay per item and of course different things have different RRPs though if you went for the same as I did it would set you back a well-priced £16.05.
