Father’s Day Gift Guide 2023

There’s no doubt about it – dads can be tough to buy for. Father’s Day usually creeps up on us out of nowhere, leaving the more unorganised amongst us worried about what to get our dads for a present.

While I’ve no doubt that the best present a dad could want is quality time with his family, it’s still nice to get him a token of appreciation. With that in mind, I’ve put together this ultimate Father’s Day gift guide to give you some inspiration and take the stress out of choosing a present for your dad.

Whisky

My dad has been reviewing some of the great Father’s Day gifts that have been sent my way, as, of course, who better to give them a try than my dad? I know he didn’t mind being set the challenge either!

One of the first things to arrive was this cute little set of whisky testers. Of course, you would probably buy a full-size bottle if you were treating your dad, but my dad really enjoyed giving these four little bottles a try.

He even turned one evening into a whisky-tasting session at home, giving each little bottle a run for its money.

Highland Park – £34.04

Highland Park is a 12-year-old whisky available at multiple retailers, including many major supermarkets. My dad found it had a slightly oaky flavour that wasn’t too spirit-y.

Highland Park describes it as having a honey sweetness with fruity undertones and a smoky back.

Laphroaig – £35.10

Laphroaig is a 10-year-old whisky that is again available at a number of the larger supermarkets. My dad found this one quite spirit-y with a peaty, smoky taste.

Laphroaig describes it as having a smoky taste that is followed by a hint of seaweed and a surprising sweetness.

The Macallan Gold – £35.99

Once again, this whisky is available from a number of the major supermarkets in the UK. My dad said this one had a clear, sharp taste that was followed by a mellow aftertaste.

The Macallan Gold is matured in 100% sherry-seasoned oak caskets, and they say it has notes of chocolate and vanilla followed by lingering floral and oak in the aftertaste.

Ardmore – £32.00 

Available from all good whisky stores, my dad and the label for this bottle completely agree with the flavouring. He claims not to have seen the label, and I have to believe him, with them both saying it offers a smooth, smoky taste with a pleasant lingering aftertaste.

So there you have it, my dad’s take vs that of the company. I have to be honest, and I think if your dad is a whisky fan, buying these small bottles to allow him to make up his own tasting session might just make for a lovely present.

The Dog’s Doodahs Card

I think The Dog’s Doodahs is such a fab company. They offer the funniest and sometimes slightly naughty cards.

So, when I was offered credit to make a card for my dad, I knew I was in for a giggle when it came to looking for the right card. This post is one of the roundup pieces my dad hasn’t seen, as I thought it would make a nice surprise on the big day.

It took me a while to choose the right card. They had many cards that had me in stitches, but I didn’t think they would quite suit my dad’s sense of humour.

Think farting, old geezer, and quite a few you could personalise with photos. However, this one I thought was just perfect.

In fact, I’m wondering about popping a pretend shopping list inside.

This card allowed a lot of customisable options, including your names on the front, both sides of the inside, and a small space to the back. You can choose different sizes, including regular and large, and it is printed on thick, glossy card, which is just as good as any card you could buy from the shop.

Wasgij

We love a good jigsaw in our house, and Wasgijs always cause a bit of a stir. This one, in particular, is a football-themed puzzle perfect for Father’s Day.

With the impending start of The World Cup in just a few weeks, the box down includes a wall chart so you can keep up with the fixtures and record the results.

This Wasgij includes 2 x 1000 piece puzzles. The first is of the picture on the front of the box, and the second and the more difficult puzzle is a mystery.

It is what the people in the first picture are looking at, and the most you get as a helping hand are a few clues around the box.

I totally admit me and my mum had this out and started putting it together as soon as it arrived. Each bag of pieces is labelled with a piece of paper, so you know which puzzle you are opening up.

The only downside is once open, you can’t pop them back into a bag, as it is just plastic, so you would need to get yourself some way to keep both puzzle’s pieces away from each other or risk getting them mixed up.

Of course, football isn’t for everyone, so you may be pleased to find out there are many different Wasgijs to choose from. They can be bought on your local high street from stockists such as Argos, Tesco, WH Smiths, and Toys R Us, to name just a few.

Now, of course, my mum and I are partway through putting together the puzzle, but showing you a picture of just where we got to may give you an extra clue, so I won’t post that.

Personalised Football

Following on nicely from the Wasgij and its football theme is this wonderful personalised football from Your Sports ID. This website allows you to choose a football with a premiership team theme or non-club style and then have it personalised with the wording of your choice!

The site offers a 3D tool that allows you to spin the ball around, see what it looks like from every angle, and choose what you want to put on it. You can choose anything from your dad’s name, a greeting, or even their favourite number.
