Entire History of Harry Potter Films Charted in new Infographic
There’s now a new way to get an at-a-glance look at the entire history of the Harry Potter film franchise, thanks to a new infographic from of the Warner Bros. Studio Tour.
Never again will fans need to argue about how much time passed between the release of The Philosopher’s Stone and the start of filming on The Chamber of Secrets; now, all of those events are laid out in an easy-to-follow chronicle of the entire franchise history.
Included are all the key dates, as well as all of the events that led to the creation of the incredibly popular tour.
Warner Bros. Studio Tour has drawn more than 10 million visitors since it first opened its doors in 2012 – and it’s not shown any sign of slowing down, with the launch of the latest addition, Gringotts Wizarding Bank, having arrived in the summer.
The history of the site has surprising origins, having been used as an aircraft factory for most of the latter portion of the 20th century. First established by the Ministry of Defence to deal with the Second World War, it was bought by Rolls-Royce in 1967, and functioned as a private aviators’ club throughout the 1980s.
The facility’s existence as a film studio commenced in the mid-1990s, when it was rebranded as Leavesden Studios. Filming commenced on the first Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, on 29 September 2000 – and work on the series barely halted for the following 10 years.
Warner Bros. Studio Tour opened its doors in 2012, shortly after the release of the final film. Visitors were finally afforded the chance to sample Butterbeer and wave authentic wands around. Demand was so enormous that a series of expansions followed in the following years. The Hogwarts Express arrived in 2015, the Forbidden Forest in 2017, and Gringotts Wizarding Bank in 2019.

Did You Know?
- Over the course of the entire series, Daniel Radcliffe got through an astonishing 160 pairs of glasses and 70 different wands.
- For the destruction of Hogwarts in the final film, more than five 32-ton trucks of polystyrene rubble had to be brought in.
- The largest set used in the entire series is the Ministry of Magic set, which premiered in the fifth film.

I got so excited last week because I saw a trailer for a new Harry Potter! I read the comments then and saw that a fan had made it and it’s a hoax
I saw a few people who shared that, it is such a shame as it would have been amazing.
My daughter is absolutely obsessed with Harry Potter. I love that it’s still as big now, as it was when the movies first came out. Its something great to share with your kids.
It is just one of those things that keeps on going isn’t it – with the love passing from one generation to the next.
Although I’ve never read any of the Harry Potter books, I do love the films – visually they’re just stunning! x

I love everything Harry Potter! My daughters are now obsessed too. My husband and I watched the movies with them a few months ago and they just loved them. I’m so happy that we can all enjoy Harry Potter together now.

I find all of that fascinating. I was one of the first teachers to read aloud this series. One of my student’s mom owned a book store. She met the author when she went to England for a buying trip. This was when the author was still doing small book shops. She brought it home and asked if I wanted to read it. It was a full year before the book was released in the US. I feel like a part of history!

What interesting Harry Potter facts! I’d love to take a studio tour and experience this kind of magic in person. It’s also remarkable to learn about all those glasses and wands that Daniel used. I would never have guessed there would be so many duplicate props like that needed for the films.
